TO ALL PERSONS TO WHOM THESEVPRESENTS SHALL COME:
Be it known vthat I, BENJAMIN L. Motor, Jr., of Pawtucket, in the county of Providence, and State of Rhode Islanrhhave invented a new and useful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves and I do hereby declare the'same to be fully described in the following speciiicationfand representedin the accompanying'drawings, of which- Vthrough the chamber underthe oven. v
v chamber E to the upper part of thestove, in manner as represented,
Figure 1 denotes a longitudinal and vertical section, and 'Figure 2 a horizontal section of acooking-stove provided withmy invention, the latter section being taken Figure 3 is a transverse section ofthe stove.
Figure 4 is a top view, and v v A A Figure 5 a. side elevation of the soot-drawer and its divisional and separate arched due-plate.
In the drawings, A/ldenotes th'e ireplace, and B the oven of the stove, there being-overthe topof the oven' a flue, C, to lead from the fireplace into alilue,l)`, arranged against the-back of thefoveu, and opening at bottom 1into a. chamber, E, arranged underneath the oven, suchvcha'mber E being open or providedwitha mouth atv its" rear end: There is another due, F, directly in rear of the Hue D, and leading from the top of the mouth of thev The'chamber E is'for thereeption of a'dra'wer, Gr, which isi to be introduced into the chamber,as well as lwithdrawn therefrom, through its mouthytiie drawer being Vmade so'as', when within the chamber, to close its mouthand extend underneath the flue F, in amanner to open communication between such Hue and such drawer, in manner as represented. l
Within the drawer Gr is a removable partition or arched' plate, H, provided with a lip or flange, a, to-extend up from and along its rear edge, inmanner and with respect to that part of the drawer which goes underneath the lue F,as shown in the drawings." The partition does not extend to the -front end, e, of the drawcr.
The arched plate, with its ang'e, a, serves to form within the chamber E or to divide the drawer into two dues, b c, to open into cao-h other .at their -front ends, and communicate with the dues D and F, in manner fas shown in tig. 1. i
The drawer G serves to catch and retain the soot deposited in the' tluos b c underneath the oven. By
removing the drawer fromithe chamber E, the soot and dust collected at any time in such lues maybe extracted vfrom the store. The drawer thus enables the dues to be easilyrcleared of deposits of soot or ashes.
'The course' of thev smoke around the oven and through'the dues, when the soot-drawer is in place in the chamber E, is indicated in fig. 1 by arrows.
I make no claim to two dues, or what are termed return-dues, arranged underneath the'oven of a stove,
and opening into each other, and other uesin rear of the said oven, such being common to man'ystoves.
Nor do l'rclaim arranging a drawer below an oven, and underneath the bottom plate ot' a stove, and providingI such plate with holes, to enable soot, when raked over s ueh holes, to fallinto such drawer, such being represented in the patent of W. B. Lawrence, dated October lfi, 1840.' The drawer in my stove is arranged over and on the bottom plate of the stove,.and within the flue-space, directly underneath the oven, and'there isan opening through the back plate of the stoveto receive such drawer. By this arrangement, not only avoid the necessityot' holesmade through the bottom plate ofthe stove, and of Scrapers arranged in the iluesof such stove, but vI am enabled to form with such drawer, and the arched plate arranged in it, two trunbated dues, easily cleansed of soot, in comparison to what they would bc if they were xcd in place underneath the oven, and had a drawer placed underneath the bottom-plate of the stove, and having communications leading from the oven-flue through the bottom-plate of the stove, and into the drawer. Besides, with my drawer arranged as it is, air may be let into the back flue ofthe oven, as occasion may require. i
I claimthecombination and arrangement of the arched plate H with the soot-drawer G, so as to divide such drawer or Athe chamber E into two connected or return-dues, as setforth, and be movable with the drawer. I also claim the combination ofthe lip Ior flange a with the partition orarehed plate H, or the same andthe drawer G, to be applied to the chamber E and ilues D F ofthe cover, as specified. y'
