In order to prevent Slack rolling; and unrolling of the note-sheet H on therollersi sind l', r'riction'pletes L are provided, preferably made segmental in shape and adapted to en gege the note-sheet on the rollers l and l', plainly shown in Figs. 3 and 4. In using, the device the operator blows and dre-ws into and from the windehest hy wey of the mouthpiece Gf., as above described, and :it the saine time winds up the note-sheet H on the roller l' by turning' the latter with the crank-handle J. As the note-sheet H passes over the tracker-board oi the reed-block D it is evident that whenever L perforation oi' the note-sheet registers with a tracker-hoard opening then air can pass through. the reed-l locl to sound the corresponding reed D'or D?, ec-
coi-ding tothe direction in which the nir is trave]ing-thntis, whether the operator sucks nir from the wind-chest Gf and sounds the reeds D er blows into the wind-chest G to sound the reeds D2.
Vit is understood that the reeds D' are duplicates ot' the reeds if. so that it does not ineke :my di'erenee as far as the tune is concerned whetherl the operator sucks orblows air from or to the wind-chest Gr. f
Having thus described my invention` eleim :is new and desire to sec u re hy Letters Pattentl. A. musical instrumentsubstentiellyas described, comprising' :i reed-block, suction and pressure chznnbers on opposite sides of the reed-block and separated from @eeh other, a wind-chest having independent connections with said ehznnbers` whereby suction and pressure may he applied to the independent ehemoers without inliueneing` the other chamber, and valves controlling,` said independent connections with the pressure and suetion chenibers whereby the application of suction or pressure to the respective chambers will not cause the nir to leal; past the reeds in connection .with the other ehmnher.
ln e musical instrument of the class deseribed, a chest Jformed at one end with L month forming a tracker-hoard for the pessage of e note-sheet, having adjacent toseid end :i reed block communicating with its nionth` independent suction :1nd pressure chambers on opposite sides ot' seid reed-block and having' at their ends opposite the trae-kerbonrd e mouth-piece and within the same, en inner chest eonnnunicziting through independent'ports with the suction sind pressure chembers, and valves controlling` the seid ports, substantifillrv as :md for the purposes set forth.
" in testimoniY whereoiI i have signed my neme to this speeiliezition in the presence of two subscribing v.'itnesses.
