Be it known that l, CARL O. NoAoK, a citizen of the United States, residing in Stamford, in the county of Fairh'eld and State of Connectiout, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Attachments for Cylinder- Locks, of which the following is a specification.

In attaching cylinder-locks to doors and in holding the locks rigidly in position in the same a mortise is transversely cut into the door for inserting a holder for the casing of the lock. The casing is provided with a lug for engaging and holding the cylinder of the lock in position after it is screwed into the lock to prevent the cylinder from becoming unscrewed. The holder is adjusted to the cylinder by means of a screw that enters the hail of the holder and by which rigid engagement of the holder with the cylinder of the lock is controlled from the end of the casing. in practical use it has been found that the holder does not always effect the proper engagement with the cylinder, and especially so when a two-cylinder lock is used, one being for the outside and the other for the inside of the door to permit the door to be locked from the outside as well as from the inside.

The object of my invention is to improve the holding attachment for cylinder-locks in such a manner that the same is adapted to engage with one or two cylinder looks, so as to hold the lock or locks in proper rigid position in the casing and prevent disengagement from the holder and the getting loose of the lock; and for this purpose the invention consists of an attachment for cylinder-locks comprising a casing and lock-cylinder having recesses at its inner ends, a holder consisting of an adjustable main piece guided in the casing, and a swivel-piece pivoted to the main piece and provided with lugs that are placed in engagement with a recess at the inner end of the cyl' inder of the lock, so as to engage and hold. the same securely and positively in position in the casing.

Referring to the drawings, a e represent cylinder-locks. which are screwed in the usual manner in the mortise bored in the door and are supported in the casing c, which is set in the mortise extending from the end of the door at right angles to the axis of the locks in the usual manner for holding the locks in proper position. In the casing c is arranged a holder. which consists of a main piece (6 and a swivel )iece 11, said swivel-piece beingconnected, by a pivot-pin (Z with the main piece 4, as shown in Fig. 2. The main piece (l is recessed at the end adjacent to the swivelpiece 1!, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, its opposite end being provided with an opening r so as to be in the nature of a hail, while its transverse portion has a tapped hole 71/ at its center, which is engaged by an adjustingscrew f. The adjlisting-screwfis adjusted by means of an opening in the end wall of the casing c by a screw-driver applied to a nick a in its head 0, so as to set the main piece (Z, which is guided by sidev flanges 7) along the inside of the walls of the casing c in forward or backward direction, according as the end lugs (I of the swivel-piece (Z are to engage or (jlisengage the recesses 'l i" at the inner end circumferences of the lock-cylind ers. 'lhe swiwbpiece (6 is guided in guideslots 0 in the side walls of the casing, so as to follow the motion of the main piece (i when the same is adjusted either in backward or :forward direction. The rear edge a of the swivel-piece (Z either rounded off or formed at an obtuse angle, so as to provide a slight lateral motion in the recessed or forked end i of the main piece (Z, so as to produce the desired engagement of the lugs d of the swivel piece with the recesses of the lock-cylinders, as shown in Fig. 2. The slight lateral motion which can be given to the swivel-piece by reason of its loose pivot connection with the main piece permits the adjustment of its lugs so as to produce the interlocking of the lugs (Z with the recesses of the lock-cylinders in a more superior manner than is permitted in the rigid arrangement of lugs in the onepiece holders heretofore in use.

My improved holder is specially adapted to be applied whenever two cylinder-locks are used in a door, one lock for opening the door from the outside and the other for opening the door from the inside, but is equally adapted for single cylinder-locks when only one interlocking end lug is required for engagement with the lock-cylinder.

Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. An attachment for cylinder-locks, consisting of a casing, a cylinder-lock set in the casing and provided with a recess at one side of its inner end, a main piece having side guideflanges for engaging the walls of the casing, means for adjusting the main piece in forward or backward direction, and a swivel piece adapted to engage the recess on the inner end of one side of the lock-cylinder pivoted to one end of the main piece and being guided and adjusted thereby, substantially as set forth.

2. An attachment for cylinder-locks, consisting of a casing having guide-slots, a cylinder-lock supported in said casing and provided with a recess at its inner end, a main piece provided with a tapped opening at one end, arecess in the opposite end and side guideflanges, a swivel piece pivotally connected with the recessed end of the main piece and provided with lugs extending into the guideslots of the casing and engaging the recess of the lock-cylinder, and means engaging the tapped opening of the main piece for adjusting the main piece in forward or backward direction, substantially as set forth.

3. An attachment for cylinder-locks, consisting of a casing, cylinder-locks set in the casing and provided each with a recess at one and the same side of its inner end, a main piece having side guide-flanges for engaging the walls of the casing, means for adjusting the main piece in forward or backward direction, and a swivel-piece adapted to engage the recess on the inner ends of the lock-cylinders pivoted to one end of the main piece and being guided and adjusted thereby, substantially as set forth.

4. An attachment for cylinder-locks, consisting of a casing having guide-slots, cylinder-locks supported in said casing in line with each other, said lock-cylindersbeing each provided with a recess at its inner end, a main piece provided with a tapped opening at one end, lugs and side guide-flanges at its opposite end, a swivel-piece pivotally connected with the recessed end of the main piece and provided with lugs extending in the guideslots of the casing and engaging the recesses at the ends of the cylinders, and means engaging the tapped opening of the main piece for adjusting the main piece in forward or backward direction, substantially as set forth.
