ERICK G. LUNDQUIST, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF TWO- THIRDS TO HENRY H. HAIL AND WILLIAM A. HAIL.
TOBACCO-POUCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 776,790, dated December 6, 1904.
Application filed May 2, 1904. Serial No. 206,094. (No model.)
To (LZZ whmn it warty concern.-
Be it known that I, ERICK G. LUNDQUIST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles, State of California. have invented new and useful Improvements in T obacco-Pouches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates more particularly to means to carry smoking-tobacco from which cigarettes are made in the pocket and having means attached thereto whereby the necessary quantity of tobacco to make a cigarette can be easily measured; and the object of my invention is to provide a tobacco-pouch for that purpose. I accomplish this object by means of the device described herein and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved tobacco-pouch. Fig. 2 is a transverse central section looking upward at the top thereof.
In the drawings, A represents the pouch, upon the upper end of which is mounted the measuring device or chamber B. This chamber has a capacity to chamber enough tobacco to make a cigarette. It is provided with a spring-actuated hinge D. On the outer or free end of the lid O, I have provided a catch E, adapted to engage a spring-pressed lug F in the top of the measuring device, adapted to engage the catch on the lid to hold it in its closed position. i
The tobacco-measuring chamber B is separated from the tobacco-pouch by a springoperated pivoted sliding stop H. This stop is pivoted on the pivot I and is held in its closed position by the spring J, which engages the lug K on the free end of the pivoted slide. Projecting upwardly from the free end of the pivoted slide and extending through the opening A in the top of the pouch is the thumbpiece G. Now when it is desired to use the pouch, the lid O being normally closed, the pouch is inverted, and the thumb-piece G is moved around in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1. The pivoted slide will be thereby thrown into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 and open the passage between the pouch and the measuring-chaniber, leaving the tobacco free to fill the measuring 5 device. The pouch is then inverted and shaken. The thumb-piece G is then released, which will permit the stopper to immediately close the opening between the pouch and the measuring-chamber, and a quantity of tobacco suflicient to make a cigarette will be contained in the meastiring-chamber. When the operator has the paper ready to make the cigarette, the measuring-chamber being full of tobacco, he places the pouch in an inverted position over the cigarette-paper and presses upon the thumb-piece L, which will depress the spring-pressed lug F, releasing the catch E and allowing the lid to be thrown open into the position shown in Fig. 1, permitting all 5 tobacco in the measuring-chamber to fall onto the cigarette-paper.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 7 Q The herein-described tobacco-pouch, comprising the case A having attached thereto the tobacco-measuring device B; aspring-actua'ting lid pivoted thereon; a pivoted stopper H adapted to close the aperture leading from the pouch to the measuring device, the said stepper having a spring-engaging lug K mounted on its outer free end and adapted to engage the spring J, and be held normally in its closed position thereby; a thumb-piece G mounted on the free ends of the pivoted slide and projecting outwardly through the upper end oi the pouch, substantially as herein shown and described.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have 5 hereunto subscribed my name this 23d day of April, 1904..
