PATENT FFICE.
SPRlNG CLAMP OR HOLDER FOR HOLDING LIDS ORCOVERS F PUDDING-BOILERS, 8L0.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 77 5,663, dated November 22, 1904.
Application filed July 25, 1904. Serial No. 218,020. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, DEAS MAOFARLANE, manufacturer, of LOswald Gardens, Scotstounhill, Glasgow, Scotland, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Spring Clamp or Holder for Holding the Lids or Covers of Pudding-Boilers, Food-Steamers, and other Like Utensils in Position, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a spring clamp or holder which is specially adapted for holding the lids or covers of pudding-boilers, foodsteamers, and other like utensils in position.
The characteristic feature of this clamp or holder is that it is made of wire whose ends are bent, formed, or shaped so as to, when the clamp is fitted in place, bear upon the bottom of the vessel, on the one hand, and on the top of the cover, on the-other hand, and thereby hold the latter in place. The wire is made to have a certain amount of spring, so that when the clamp is slipped over the vessel it will firmly press on the lid. Preferably I bend the ends of the clamp into a helical or like shape, so as to give a good bearing-surface. Byway of example, one form of spring clamp or holder is shown on the annexed sheet of drawings at Figures 1" and 2 as applied to a pudding-boiler.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the puddingboiler, a part of which is broken away, and the spring-clamp is shown as fastening the lid or cover a to the body or bowl 6. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view, and Fig. 4 a perspective view, of the spring-clamp alone.
The spring-clamp is made of stout wire which is bent into a flat, helical, or like shape at its lower end 0, so as to form the bottom of the clamp, and it is then led up, as at d, to a certain height (corresponding to the size of the puddin -boiler) and bent or doubled, as at 6, so as to form a handle, and is then again bent horizontally or at aslight angle,-as at f, and then twisted round into helical or like shape, so as to form the top Q of the clamp.
The center of the helix may be bent up and shaped so as to form a handle it.
The handle 6 serves to push on and pull off the clamp, while the handle 72. serves for lifting up the pudding-boiler when the clamp is in position.
The clamp is applied, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, by pushing it over the pudding-boiler or other vessel in such manner that the bottom 0 of the clamp will bear against the bottom of the vessel, and the top of the clamp will bear on and press down the cover of the vessel.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 4 1. A spring clamp or holder for holding the lids or covers of pudding-boilers and the like in position and made of wire which has its ends bent, formed, or shaped so that when in place one end will bear upon the bottom of the vessel and the other end on the cover and thereby hold the latter in place.
2. A spring clamp or holder for holding the lids or covers of pudding-boilers and such like in position made of wire which is bent so as to form an upright back with a lower projecting arm and an upper projecting arm the lower arm being adapted to bear on the bottom of the vessel and the upper arm being adapted to bear on the cover of the vessel.
3. A spring clamp or holder for holding the lids or covers of pudding-boilers and such like in position made of wire which has its ends bent at an angle to the central part the ends being further bent so as to form holders which bear on the cover and the bottom of the vessel respectively.
4. A spring clamp or holder for holding the lids or covers of pudding-boilers and such like in position made of wire which is first bent into a helical shape and then straight for a short distance and is then bent upward at an angle and then again bent straight and is finally bent with a second helix at the upper end of the wire, substantially as described.
5. A spring clamp or holder for holding the end being bent so as to form a second handle, lids or covers of pudding-boilers and such like substantially as hereinbefore described.
