CHRISTIAN HAUSSMANN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
sToPPER ExTRACTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 775,273, dated November 15, 1904.
Application filed April 8, 1904. Serial No. 202,186. (No model.)
In (/J/ 'Hf/LO'III/ it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN HAUssMANN,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stopper-Extractors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to stopper-extractors, and more particularly a device of this kind for removing the usual pasteboard caps from milk-bottles and the like.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and handy device of this kind whereby a cap can be quickly and easily removed without spilling any of the contents of the j bottle.
In the accom )anvin drawin s Fi ure 1 is l l h 11 7 a a side elevation showing the application of the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation at right angles to Fig. I. Fig. 3 is a plan view.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 5 denotes disk which is adapted to be placed over the mouth of the bottle and has on its under side a reduced portion 6, which extends into the bottle. The under side of the part b, at diametrically opposite points, has downwardly projecting barbed prongs T. The barbs are indicated at 8, and it is to be noted that they are presented in opposite directions, as shown. the mouth of the bottle and the prongs stuck through the cap, as shown in Fig. 1, they being provided with a sharp point, so as to readily penetrate the cap. The disk is then given a slight turn to bring the barbs under the cap, after which the disk is removed, which will pull the cap out of the mouth of the bottle, it being held by the barbs above described. As the disk covers the mouth of the bottle, none of its contents will be spilled when the cap is removed.
At 9 is indicated a bail on the disk, which affords a convenient hold for removing it from the bottle to pull the cap. The bail has on each side a foot-piece .10, which presses on the edges of the bottle-mouth when said bail is lifted, thereby facilitating the removal of the disk, which is forced upwardly by the J action of the foot-piece.
A depression ill is formed in the face of the disk, and the bail is pivoted by extending it through the wall 12 between the depression and the outer edge of i the disk, which is cutaway, as at 13, to per- In use the disk will be placed over mit movement of the foot-piece. The bail and foot-pieces are preferably made of asingle piece of wire, which is bent into the required shape shown.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. A bottle-cap extractor comprising a disk having on its under side a reduced portion fitting in the bottle-mouth, and diametrically opposite prongs extending therefrom to penetrate the cap, said prongs having oppositelyprcsented barbs to engage under the cap.
2. A bottle-cap extractor comprising a disk having on its under side diametrically opposite prongs to penetrate the cap, said prongs having oppositely-presented barbs to engage under the cap, and a bail pivoted to the disk having on each side a foot-piece pressing on the edge of the bottle-mouth when said bail is lifted.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHRISTIAN HAUSSMANN.
