ADJUSTING OR PACKING RING- SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 771,258, dated October 4, 1904.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMIL MAROLD, a subject of the King of Prussia, Emperor of Germany, residing at 41 Adalbertstrasse, in the city of Berlin, Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented a certain new and useful Adjusting or Packing Ring, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a packing-ring of novel construction which may be readily applied to a shaft and interlocked therewith.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a cross-section ofmy improved packing-ring, and Fig. 2 a similar section through the removable part thereof.
The packing-ring is composed of two sections 6'6 which are adapted to be interlocked,
so that the ring may be mounted upon a shaft without slipping it on endwise. For the purpose of interlocking the ring-sections the section I) is provided with a pair of undercut grooves, while the section 6 is provided with a pair of laterally-projecting beveled tongues which engage said grooves. 'Iangentially to the bore d of the ring section 6 is provided with a tapering slot that receives a wedge 60, which is adapted to engage the shaft, and thus lock the ring to the latter. The ends of the wedge a are received within recesses g g of section b, which are formed opposite the ends of the wedge-receiving slot of section 6 These recesses permit the wedge to be driven home to its maximum extent and to be readily withdrawn.
