TO ALL WIIOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, DAVID WILLIAM DE FOREST, of the city of Brooklyn, in the ycounty of' Kings, and Stateof New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mucilage-Bottles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exacttlescription of the construction and' operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- I The figure represents a side elevation thereof.

The nature of my invention consists in making the mouth of a mucilage-bottle flaring or bell-shaped, soA as to receive the brush Without the liability of the mucilage gatheringon oraround the mouth, the lower part oi- Y the neck being made straight, to receive and hold the cork, and a. bulge or swell-made below the neck, of such size and shape as to form a shoulder, against which to press the superliuous mucilage from the brush, and thus preventing the liability of daubing the mouth of the bottle.

To enable others skilled'in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

I make the bottle, A,'with a bell-shaped mouth and neck B, the lower part of the neck C boing made straight, and a bulge, D', below the neck, the bulge or swell being of such size and shape as to form nearly a. square shoulder with the lower part Aof the'neck.

The mouth and neck of mucilage-'bottles now in use bei-ng straight, the brush is liable to catch over the top in being inserted in the bottle, and, in being removed, must be pressed against the side of' the'neck to remove' the superiuous mucilage, and thus the mouth and neck become daubed inside and outside, rendering the use disagreeable and diiicult.

I have avoided these difculties by making the mouth bell-shaped, as described, so that the brush may. be readily inserted, withouttho liability of catching over the top of the bottle, and the {lari-ng shape ot' lthe mouth allows the brush to be brought properly aga-inst the shoulder, thus removing from the brush' the superfluous mucilage, which falls back into the bottle, and thus the waste and inconvenience of' the accumulation of the gum upon the mouth and neck of the bottle are prevented.r

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein Vas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isy. K
