VETERlNARY-SURGEONS FLOAT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,340, dated September 6, '1904.

. To all whom, it mag concern.-

' citizen of the United States, residing at Traverse City, in the county of Grand Traverse and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Veterinary Surgeons Float, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to veterinary surgeons floats.

. The object of the invention is to present a novel and thoroughly effective means by which the rasp shall be held within the holder and from which it may be released when desired.

With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists, generally stated, 'in an implement of the character specified comprising -a rasp-holding head, a rasp-clamping element carried thereby-and transversely movable therein, and a handle to force the clamp into engagement with the rasp.

The invention consists, further, in an implement of the character specified comprising a rasp-holding head provided with an angu larlydisposed internally-threaded shank, a raspclamping element carried by the head and bridging the bore of the shank, and a handle provided with means for engaging the clamp to force the same into engagement with the rasp.

- Theinvention consists, further, in an implement of the character specified comprising a rasp-holding head provided with an angularly disposed internallythreaded shank, an approximately H-shaped rasp-clamping element combined therewith, and a handle having a tapered end to engage the clamp and force the same into engagement with the rasp.

Theinvention consists, further, in an implement of the character specified comprising a rasp-holding head provided at its rear end with an angularly-disposed internally-threaded shank, a rasp-clamping element carried by the head and intersecting the opening of the bore, means for holding the clamp associated with'the head, and a handleh'aving a tapered terminal to engage the clamp to force'it into engagement with the recess.

The invention consists, further, in the novel handle being removed.

construction and combination of parts of a veterinary-surgeons float, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, there is illustrated one form of embodiment of the invention capable of carryingthe same into practical operation, it

being understood that the elements therein exhibited may be varied or changed as to shape, proportion, and exact manner of assemblage' Without departing from the spirit-of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a veterinary-surgeons float constructed in accordance with .the present invention. Fig. 2 is a view in plan looking from the under side of the rasp-holder, the Fig. 8 is a view in vertical longitudinal section. Fig. 4'is a perspective detail view of the rasp-clamp.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates generally the rasp-holder, the same comprising a head 2, having inturned flanges 8, be-

tween the walls of which the rasp 1 is seated.

The head is'herein shown as flat on its upper side, although this is not essential, and projecting rearwardly and at an angle to the face of the head is a shank 5, internally threaded at 6 to be engaged by the threaded end 7 of a handle 8, the hand 1e being provided with a wooden handpiece 9, as shown. The inner end of the handle is provided with a cone terminal 10, which is adapted to enter betweena pair of arms 11,

carried by a rasp-clamp 12, the same being approximately H-shaped, as shown-in Fig. 4n, the

lower arms 13 of the clamp being projectedthrough orifices 1 in the head, thus to cause the clamp to intersect the bore of the shank. The clamp is held associated with the holder in any preferred manner, as by a bar 15, the terminals of which may be seated in recesses 16, formed in the holder and held combined therewith, as by means of solder. While this manner of holding the bar assembled with the holder will be found thoroughly efiicient in use, it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited thereto, as any other preferred expedient for the purpose may be employed and still be within the scope of the invention.

In the operation of the device when the rasp 4: is seated between the flanges of the holder the handle is turned, and its conical terminal 10 will project between the arms 11 of the flange and bear upon its curved lower wall 17, whereupon the arms 13 will be forced outward and into engagement with the rasp, thereby positively clamping the same in position. When the rasp is to be removed, it will only be necessary to loosen the handle in a manner that will be perfectly obvious.

The advantages accruing from the employment of the form of clamp shown are that the rasp will be positively locked in position with the holder, be readily released when desired, and in case of breakage or injury to the clamp the same may be easily replaced with but small expense.

Having thus fully described my invention, what 1 claim is 1. An implement of the character specified, comprising a rasp-holdin g head provided with an angularlydisposed internallythreaded shank, an approximately H shaped raspclamping element combined therewith, and a handle having a tapered end to engage the clamp an d force the same into engagement with the rasp.

2. An implement of the character specified comprising a rasp-holding head provided at its rear end with an angularly-disposed internally-threaded shank, a rasp-clarnping element carried by the head and intersecting the opening of the here, means for holding the clamp associated with the head and a handle having a tapered terminal to engage the clamp to force it into engagement with the rasp.

3. An implement of the character specified eomprisinga rasp-holding head, a rasp-engaging clamp carried thereby and provided with spaced arms, and a handle having a terminal to engage the arms to force the clamp into engagement with the rasp.

An implement of the character specified comprising a rasp-holding head, provided with an internally-threaded shank and with a transverse orifice opening into the face of thchead, a rasp-clamping element mounted in the orifice, and a handle engaging the shank and having a terminal to engage the clamping element and project it beyond the face of the head.

5. An implement of the character specilied comprising a rasp-holdinghezul provided with an internally-threaded shank, and with a transverse orilice intersecting the bore of the shank, an approximately H-shaped rasp-elamping element mounted in the orifice, means for holding the clamping element against separation from the head, and a handle engaging the threaded shank and provided with a tapered terminal to engage the clamping element to force it beyond the face of the head.
