PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB HAMELBAOK, OF NEWARK, OHIO.
COMBINED CURTAIN AND SHADE HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,075, dated August 30, 1904. Application filed September 22, 1903. Serial No. 174,180. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:-
Be it known that I, J ACOB A. HAMELBAOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Licking and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Curtain-Pole and Window-Shade-Roll Bracket or Hanger, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improve ments in combined curtain-pole and windowshade-roll brackets or hangers.
It has for its object, among other-things, to readily and conveniently support the curtain-pole in position from the window-frame and to eifect the ready adjustment or raising and lowering of the shade-roll-suspending members orbrackets as may be desired, as in regulating the light or for ventilation, in a simple and cheap manner.
It consists of the combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter more fully disclosed, and specifically pointed out by the claims concluding the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a front view thereof. Fig. 2 is a lateral view, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of a curtain-pole-bracket member.
In the carrying out of my invention I employ companion lateral brackets or members 1 for supporting a curtain or lambrequin pole 2 from the window-frame,as shown.
outer end portion or seat 1, adapted to receive and prevent the outward displacement of the curtain-pole; also, with a rearwardlyextending stud or spur 1", adapted to be readily driven into the window-frame at the de sired point for the convenient attachment of the bracket thereto. Each bracket also has applied thereto a pulley orsheave 3 with its periphery presented laterally or at right angles to the longitudinal plane of the bracket, the axis or shaft of said pulley bearing in a downward extension 1 of said bracket and an Said downward extension has an aperture or opening 1 produced through its extreme lower end to Said brackets are each formed with an arcnate.
receive suitable fastening means to aid the further securing in position of said bracket.
The shade-roll bracket or hanger 4 comprises two sections or parts 1 adapted in any suitable way, as by sleeves 4, formed upon the inner ends of their horizontal portions, to receive and permit the sliding of one section upon the other, said sleeves in the present instance being each produced of a series of convolutions forming coils terminating said ends. Said bracket sections 4. have downturned extensions i the points of union between which constitute eyes or loops 4: to or within which are secured cords 5 or other suitable medium, in turn passed over the pulleys or sheavesB for the suspension in position of the shade-roll brackets or hangers from the curtain-pole brackets, said cords being connected or secured at their lower ends to suitable cleats or like means, applied as usual to the Windowframe. Thus the window-shade roll may be supported from the curtain-pole bracket and can be vertically adjusted to vary the admission of the amount of light and for ventilation, as required, without disturbing said ourtain pole bracket. Said downturned extensions at terminate at their lower ends in a circular eye or loop 4? and a rectangular loop at, respectively, for the reception of the usual axial studs or gudgeons formed upon the shade-roll end disks or portions, as well understood.
The production of said shade-roll hanger or bracket as above described provides for the accommodation thereof to any width of window-frame, as is'greatly desirable, as will be readily appreciated.
It will be understood that latitude is allowed herein as to details, as they may be changed as circumstances suggest without departing from the spirit of my invention and said invention still be protected.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device of the character described, comprising a curtain-pole bracket having a rightangled inner end portion and a bracing portion connected to said right-angled portion and terminating in a securing extension, said bracket also having an offset portion, below said securing extension, itself being reversely extended and offset from the first noted offset, a pulley hung or journaled intermediately of said offset, a window-shade-carrying member, and means for suspending said member from said roll.
2. A device of the character described, com- 3. A device of the character described, consisting of a curtain-pole bracket having a ri glitangled inner end portion and a bracing portion looped around said right-angled portion and terminating in a securing screw, said bracket also having an offset portion below said securing-screw, itself being reversely extended and offset from the first-noted offset, a pulley hung or journaled intermediately of said offset, a window-shadc-carrying member having extensible sections, and a line passing over said pulley and suspending said windowshade-carrying member.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JACOB A. HAMELBACK.
