liliarirnn Patented August 9, 190a.
JOHN CLllNTlTON, Old Sill. LOUIS, lllISSOURlL SPECIFICATION" forming part of Letters Patent No. 766,931, dated August 9, 1904.
Application filed May 9, 1904, Serial No. 206,989. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, do I IN CLINTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of t lt. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Display-Hack, oi? which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it a 'i iertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates more particularly to display-racks for samples of hosiery and similar articles, and has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive rack in which the article may be securely clamped and from which it may be readily removed and in which the article is so secured as to be extended for advantageous display and for ready examination.
In the drawings, in which like characters of reference refer to similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is afront elevation; Fig. 2, an end elevation, and llTig. 3 a vertical section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
The rack consists of a base 10, provided with anumber 01" supports 11, upon which a counter 12 rests. 13 represents supports upon which rest two inclined display-boards 14, as best shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Anumber oij' staples 15 are driven into the display-boards 14C near the top thereof, and a rod 16 is placed in the staples, the parts being so arranged that the rod 16 capable of considerable movement toward and away from the display-board l t. A set of these staples 15 and a rod 16 are provided for each board. A number of wedges 17 are passed downward between the staples 15 and clamped between the rods '16 and the display-boards 14:.
The operation of my device will be obvious from the drawings, which represent a number of stockings 18 supported in the rack. The
upper ends of the stockings are lirst passed beneath the rod 15, and the wedges 17 are inserted from the top to clamp the upper end of the stocking between the outer face of the wedges and the rod 16. The article to be displayed is thus firmly clamped upon the inclined board in such a way as to extend it upon the board for ready inspection, and at the same time the article may be easily removed by a slight witlulrawal of the wedge 17.
Having iully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United iittates, is-
1. In a displayrack, a display board, a clamping-rod. supported adjacent to said. display-board, and a wedge between said clamping-rod and d i splay board tor securing in position the artieleto be displayed.
2. lin a display rack, a display board, a clamping-rod supported adjacent to said display-board. and having a limited movement toward and from said board, and a wedge between said clamping-rod and display-board for fastening in position the article to be displayed.
In a display -rack, a display board, a clamping-rod supported in movable relation to said display-board by a plurality of staples, and a wedge between said display-board and. rod for securing in position the article to be displayed.
4. In a display-rack, an inclined displayboard, a clanming-rod supported adjacent to said display-board and wedges between said display-board and rod for holding in position the articles to be displayed.
In a display-rack, a pair off adjoining display-boards inclined in opposite directions, a clamping-rod supported adjacent to each display-board and wedges between said displayboards and rods for securing in position the articles to be displayed.
lln testinlony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and allixed my seal in the presence of the two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN UL lNTON. [11. s.] l Vitnesses:
