By referring to Fig. l it will be noticed that the end sill projects upwardly above the draft-sills and that the end wall of the car is located some distance back of the end sill.

which is preferably riveted to the top flange of the'end sill, and in order to support said platform-plate I .may arrange vertical angles ll thereunder, as shown in Fig. 2, but I prefer to employ the. construction shown in Fig. 5 or Fig. 6, in the former of which ahorizontal angle l2 is riveted to the end wall and supports the inner edge` of the platform-plate continuously throughout the width of the car, while in the latter form the inner edge of the platform-plate is anged down, as shown at 13, and riveted to the end wall of the car, the same rivets being preferably employed in both forms that are used in attaching the end floor-sheet in position. In the construction shown in Fig. 5 it is obvious that angle l2 can be attached in position at the time the end licor-sheet is riveted inplace, the platformplate being subsequently riveted to the top flange of the end sill, its inner end being free and supported upon the angle l2. In the construction shown in Fig. 6 the platform-plate is likewise riveted in position at the time the floor-sheet is attached in position and afterwardl the outer edge of the platform-sheet is riveted to the top flange of the end sill.
It will be noted that it is possible to use a machine-riveter for the purpose of driving most of the rivets employed in my construction, and consequently the cost of manufacture is greatly reduced.
I am aware that many minor changes inthe construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of my device may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without in the least departing from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. In a car, the combination with side walls, made deepest at their middle portions, of angles, continuous from end to end of the car, and attached to the lower edges of said side walls, flanged floor-sheets riveted to the'side walls above the angles at the ends of-the car, center sills, and cross-beams carried by the side walls for supporting the center sills; Asubstantially as described.
2. In a car, the combination with side walls, made deepest at their middle portions, of angles, continuous from end to end of the car, and attached to the lower edges of said side walls, lianged floor-sheets riveted to the side walls above the angles at the ends of the car, center sills, cross-beams carried by the side walls for supporting the center sills, and a cross-ridge in the center of the car above the cross-beams, the top ridge-sheet of said crossridge being flanged upwardly and attached to the side walls of the car; substantially as described.
3. In a car, the combination with the side walls made deepest at their middle. portions, of center sills, cross-beams carried by the side walls for supporting .the center sills, and an angle arranged between the cross-beams and attached to the lower edges of the side walls at the center of the car, for tying said side walls at this point; substantially as described.
4f. In a car, the combination with the side walls, of a center sill, cross-beams carried by the side walls for supporting the center sill,
a cross-ridge carrying said cross-beams, the top ridge-plate thereof being flanged up at its ends and attached to the side walls of the car, and an angle 9 attached to the lower edges of the side walls, at a point between4 the crossbeams for tying the lower edges of said side walls together at the center of the car; substantially as described.
5. In a car,the vcombination with an upwardly-projecting end sill, of a platform-plate attached at its outer edge to the upward-prol jecting portion of said end sill, and means for supporting the inner edge of saidl platformplate; substantially as described.
6. In a car, the combination with the end sill, of a platform-plate riveted to the top thereof and supported thereby at its Iouter edge, the end wall of the car, and means being attached to the end Vwall of the car for supporting the inner edge of the platformplate, substantially as described.
7. Ina car, the combination with the end sill, of a platform-plate riveted to the top thereof and supported at its outer edge thereby, the end wall of the car, and a iange attached to said end wall for supporting the inner edge of the platform-plate; substantially as described.
8. In a car, the combination with the end sill, of a platform-plate riveted to the top iange thereof, the end wall of the car, and means riveted to said end wall for supporting the inner edge of the platform-plate, the rivets forming an attachment of said means to the end wall, also securing the end sheet in position; substantially as described.
9. In a car, the combination with a chan- TOO IIO
nel-shaped end sill, a separate platform-plate secured thereto and extending substantially the length of said sill, said plate being secured to said sill at its outer edge and to the end wall of the car, and means for supporting the inner edge of said platform-plate; substantially as described.

In a-car, the combination with a chan-z nel-shapedend sill, a separate platform-plate secured thereto, extending substantially the length of said sill, and of substantially uniform width from end to end and riveted to a flange of said sill at the outer edg'e of said plate, the end wall of the car, and means for suppoi'ting the inner edg'e ofl said platformplate; substantially as described.

In a car, the combination with a channel end sill, of a'platform-plate secured to the upper flange thereof, said plate extending substantially the length of said sill and being supported thereby at its outer edge, the end Wall of the car, and means connected with the end wall of said car for supporting' the inner edge of said platform-plate; substantially as described.
12. In a car, the combination with a straight channel end sill, of a separate platform-plate secured above the same by riveting to the upper flange thereof and extending substantially the length of said sill, said plate being of substantially the same width from end to end, the end wall of the car, and means connected with the end wall of the car for supporting' the inner edge of said platform-plate; substantially as described.
13. In a car, the combination of holsters, plate-girder sides supported by said holsters and having compression and tension flanges which are parallel for a portion of their length, said plate-girder sides being deepest at their middle portion, and transverse transoms connected at their ends to the deeper portion of said plate-girder sides; substantially as described.
14. Ina car, the combination of center sills, end sills extending to a higher plane than said center sills, plate-girder side walls deepest at their middle portion, a floor above said center sills connected with said side walls, tensionflang'es connected with said side walls below said floor, and compression-flanges at the upi cured at their opposite ends to said girder per side of said side walls; substantially as described.
15. In a car, the combination of center sills, end sills extending to a higher plane than said center sills, plate-girder side walls deepest at their middle portion, a floor above said center sills in a plane below the upper plane of said end sills, said floor being connected with said side walls, tension-flanges connected with said side walls below said floor, and compressionflanges at the upper side of said side walls; substantially as described.
16. In a car, the combination of center sills, end sills, plate-girder side walls deepest at their middle portion, compression-flanges and tension-flanges connected with said side walls, and a floor above said tension-flanges and center sills, said floor resting' in a plane below the upper plane of said end sills; substantially as described.
17. In a car, the combination of holsters, plate-girder sides, a compression-flange, a flooring, a tension-flange below said flooring', and a cross-beam connected with downwardlyextended portions of said plate-girder sides,
between said holsters; substantially as described.
18. In a car, the combination with a bodybolster, of plate-girder sides having' lower or tension flanges, a floor connected with said plate-girder sides, an end sill extending' to a plane above said floor, end walls, and a platform-plate connected with said end sill and said end wall above the plane of said floor; substantially as described.
19. In a car, the combination of plate-girder sides, holsters formed of' flanged beams secured at their opposite ends to said girder sides, center sills which extend from end to end of the car and pass through said holsters between the web portions thereof, and plates connecting said center sills and holsters; substantially as described.
20. In a car, the combination of plate-girder sides,bolsters formed of flanged beams secured at their opposite ends to said girder sides, center sills which extend from end to end of the car and pass through said holsters between the web portions thei'eof, and plates above and below said holsters connecting' said center sills and holsters; substantially as described.
21. In a car, the combination of plate-girder sides, holsters formed of flanged members secured at their opposite ends to said g'irder sides, center sills which extend from end to end of the car and pass through said holsters, a cover-plate connecting' said center sills and holsters, a floor, an end sill which extends to aplane above said floor, and a platform-plate in a plane above said floor connected with said end sill; substantially as described.
22. Ina car, the combination of plate-girder sides, holsters formed of flanged members sesides, center sills which extend from end to IOO end of the car and pass through said holsters,
a cover-plate connecting' said center sills and holsters, a floor above said center sills, an end sill which extends toa plane above said floor, and a platform-plate in a plane above said floor connected with said end sill; substantially as described.
23. In a car, the combination of plate-girder sides, of holsters foi'med of channel-beams, an upper plate connected therewith, a lower plate connected therewith, said plates being riveted to the flanges of said channels and extending' unbroken froni end to end, center sills extending' from end to end of the car between the webs of said holsters and between said plates, and connected with said plates; substantially as described.

Ina car, the combination of plate-girder sides, of holsters formed of flanged beams, divided for center sills, center sills extending therethrough, top and bottom cover-plates connecting' said sills and flanged beams, end sills extending to a plane above said center IIO sills. and a lioor in a plane below the upper plane of said end sills; substantially as described.
25. In a car, center sills composed of flanged members, a cover-plate connected with the fianges thereof, extending longitudinally of said sills, an end sill extending to a plane above said center sills, a floor below the upper plane of said end sill, and plate-girder side walls, with tension-flanges extending longitudinally thereof below the plane of said floor; substantially as described.
26. In acar, the combination of plate-girder sides, center sills extending from end to end of the car, bolsters formed of flanged beams lsecured at their opposite ends to said girder sides, said bolsters having divided webs between Which said center sills pass, and plates riveted to the upper flanges of the bolsters and extending across said center sills; substantially as described.
27. In a car, the combination of plate-girder sides, center sills composed of flanged members extending from end sill to end sill, a longitudinal plate connected with the ianges of said center sills, and end sills composed of channel members extending to a plane above said center sills; substantially as described.
28. In a car, the combination of plate-girder sides, center sills composed of flanged members extending from end sill to end sill, a lonf gitudinal plate connected with the ianges of said center sills, end sills composed of channel members extending to a plane above said center sills, and a platform-plate connected respectively to said end silll and an end wall of the car; substantially as described.
29. In a car, the combination of plate-girder sides, center sills composed of flanged members extending from end sill to end sill, a longitudinal plate connected with the flanges of said center sills, end sills composed of channel members extending to a plane above said center sills, and across-beam between the bolsters connected at its ends with said plate-girder sides; substantially as described.
30. In a car, the combination of plate-girder sides, center sills composed of anged members extending from end sill to end sill, a longitudinal plate connected with the flanges of said center sills, end sills composed of channel members extending to a plane above said center sills, bolsters comprising flanged web portions divided for the center sills, and a coverplate connected respectively with said flanged portions and with the center sills; substantially as described.

The combination of bod y-bolsters, a center sill or sills, girder sides having tensionflanges on their outer sides which are supported by the bolsters and are depressed between the bolsters below the tops of the latter, and hoppers arranged between and secured to said girder sides and the center sill or sills and having bottoms which incline upwardly toward the center of the car; substantially as set forth.

The combination of body-bolsters, a center sill or sills, girder sides which are su pported vby the bolsters and extend down between the bolsters below the tops of the latter, and yhoppers arranged between and secured to said girder sides and the centersill or sills and hav ing bottoms which incline upwardly toward the center of the car, and a horizontal floor extending from said hoppers to the end of the car, substantially as set forth.
