Be it known that we, Bonner I-IOADLEY and A. Snrrnnn, of Ansonirnin the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement inLamp-Burners; and we do hereby declare the following, ,when taken in connectionwith the accompanyingdrawings and the letters out' reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, and whichV said drawings constitute part of this Specication, and represent, in

4 This invention relates to an improvement in that class of burners designed for burning kerosene and similar oils, and consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement for the support of'the chimney, and for the attachment of the deileetor theretm y To enable others to constructeur improvement, we will proceed to describe the s a'me as illustrated in the accompanying drawings. v

The said plate D isformed as seen in Iig. 3, cut from a plate of sheet metal ofthe proper thickness, and with points, E E, 85o., extending from its edge, and between which other similar but shorter points, F F, 'tc., are formcd,`and'an opening, G, through the centre for the tube, and the balance of the plate perforated, so as t9 permit the air tovpa'ss freely therethrough.

i The points E are, in proper dies, turned up, as seen in ivrl, While the points F are turned down, and their ends hooked, as seen in fig. 1, to form a seat for the..chimney,'as seen in Iig. f?. The points E, extending up into the chimney, are, from the nature ofv thc metal, somewhat elastic, so as to bear against the inside of the chimney, to hold the chimney firmly in itsseat, and yet so vas to allow its removal vtherefrom by taking hold of the chimney, and lifting it-from its side. i

The outer row of `perforations through the, plate D open directly into the -chimneyoutside the deflector, While those within the circumference of thedeflector open directly into the decctor, as seen in iig. 2, A The open base permits-the air to pass thusfreelyland' in great quantity'directly to the blaze. The deiector is removable, for the purpose of trimming the wick.

By this construction, the chimney, at its base, is little attracted by the heatriro'm thevblnze, so that, at any time, the chimney may be removed by taking hold near its bese, and all extra attachments for securing the chimney are dispensed with, the internal vertical'lspringsE being Athe only mea-ns, and all that is required, for securing the chimney to the burner. i

We do not claim supporting this chimney upon hooks dependent from the burner, so as to support the cliimg'iey below the vllame; but

What We claim asnew and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The perforated plate D, in combination with the detlector H and the hase, B, when the said plate is .arranged in the manner described, and constructed in one and the same piece with the vertical springs E andthe chimney supporters F, substantially as set forth.
