Description

@with tate agganci, @ffim Letters Patent No. 76,320, dated April .7',"1868,
' IMPROVEMENT IN FRUIT-entretiens.
@Mgr tlgzhnl mmh tu' in tiges itam tant imi; milking. um if i122 am.
BeV itknown that I, W. GAGE, of Homer, in` theV county of Cortland, and'State of New VYork7 have invented a new and nseful Improvement in Fruit-Gatherer; and I do herebydeclar'e vthat the following isa. full, clear, and exact description thereof, )vh'ich will enable those skilled inthe art to make and use the same,
,reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specilcation, in which- YFigure il shows'a perspective view ofthe frame, .with the cloth cover removed, and
Figure 2 shows the device complete. l l I Figures 3, 4, 5, and 6 showl the parts disconnected,.and in fform for packing or storing avevay.
Similar letters of' reference indicate like parts in all the figures.
This inventionconsists in an improved methed of -folding the apparatus'so that it is much" more snug for transportation or for storing away,'as hereinafteri explained.
The ltable s` constructed in 'two parts, AfA/,pand fitted together by dowel-pins in the centre-pieces C in the usual manner. .Each segment, B and of the hoop is made up of several straight pieces, 1, 2, 3, .4, and 5, g. 1, which are pivoted to short connecting-pieces or blocks, d, by pivots f. The ends ofthe hoop are pro# vided with morti-ses e e for receiving the ende o, iig. 5, of the centre-pieces C. Alternate sections or sides of" the hoop have vertical mortises, It, for holding the legs ylin a detachable and adjustable manner. The cloth.
table or cover is constructed with chiites., and is secured to the frame by hooking or buttoning its edges over pins t' in the-frame. The legs g have a series of holes in their upper ends, so that the hoop may be sustained atvarious heights by m'eans of pins h placed in said holes.
To pack-the device, the pins'lI are withdrawn from the legs g', and the frame lowered to the ground. v The cloth, F, is then detached andremoved from the frame, and this frees the segments of the hoop from the centre pieces, so that the tenons c can be Withdrawnfrom'the mortises e in the ends of the hoop. Each segment of the hoop and the cloth is then folded, and-the 'various parts of' the device are in compact and convenient form, a's shown in figs'. 3, 4, 5, and 6, so as to.requvire `hilt little room for storage or.transpo1tation. The detachable method-oi` using the cloth allows it to be stored away, where it is less liable to be cut by mice, tir-c., while in di'sus'e. This method of attaching the legs g also combines adjnstability, so the table can be set level on uneven ground, or at various heights, with chcapness of construction, and also allows the legs to he detached readily foi-'packing Having thus descrihedmy invention, whatfIclaim :is new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The polygonal hoop B. when constructed in such -lnanner as to fold separatelyfrorn the cloth table F and centre-pieces C, as shown in, g. 3, as 'andffoi' the purpose set forth. l
' I The above specification of, my'invcntion signed by me, this 26th day of January, 1868. Y
' C. W. GAGE.
