GAS OR VAPOR sumzn.
SPECIFICATION1'Mm1I1g pa.rt of Letters Palzent N0. 763,140, dated J une 21, 1904.
Application filed November 18, 1902. Serial N0. 131,808. (N0 mmlel.)
l'0 roll wh0m z't may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPHUS HENRY ARZT, a cit;izen of England, 1esiding at 38 Margaret street, Oavenclish Sqnare, London, England, have invented certain new and nsefnl Improvements in Gas 01 V"apor Bnrners for Heating, 0f which the following is a specification.
Bnrners for heating have been macle in which the mixing tnbe 01 Chamber of the well-known Bnnsen burner has been partitionecl by cliaphragms of metal ganze 0r the like into a nnrnber ot eharnbers, the object being 130 efi'ect a bettet inbermixtnre of the combnstible gas 01 vapor and air. In such hnrners the mixtnre bnrns on a sheet of 'metal ganze 01 a perforatecl metal plate 0n bhe top of nhe mixing-tnbe.
My invention relates t0 improvernents in bnrners of this kind, as I Will clescribe with reference to he accompanying drawings, in which F ignre 1 is a vertical seeion of my improved bnrner. Fig. 2 '1s a sectional plan of the mixing-tnbe on line 2 2 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a plan 01 ehe t0p plate 0f the bnrner.
a is the mixing-tnbe of the bnrner, which is expanded at its lower encl b ancl is rivetecl to feet c. The injector-nozzle (Z clischarges gas against the plae e, which forrns a central disk in a cliaphragm f, 0f wire-ganze 01 of perforated rnecal 0r other snitable material. As indicated by the arrows, the gas is refleeted by this plate e back into the air, which has been drawn inoo the mixing-tnbe. The mixtnre then passes throngh tl1e diaphragrn an l up the mixing-tnbe t0 the bnrner proper, passing on its way throngh a ganze or perforatecl platze g, which prevens the flame from flashing back.
The bnrner proper cornprises two c0nCentric cylinders /a z', the inner of which is conveniently macle in one piece, with an invertecl trnncaed hollow cone 70 fixed t0 the top of the mixing-tnbe. The onter of the concentrie cylinders has fixed t0 it a cover Z, which is snpportecl on the inner cylinder by clistancepieces in such manner thau alle gas passing np the inner cylincler rnay pass clown between the cylinders and np along the sicles 0f alle trnncatecl cone k, as indicatecl by the arrows.
Between the npper eclge of nhe cone am]. the cover Z of the onter cylinder is an annnlar opening at which the mixtnre of gases bnrns. On the said cover Z I place a ring m, coned ontwarclly in an npwarcl direction, which I fill With sand 0r other material capabl e of being heated '00 a high temperatnre and 0f thns improving the radiation of the bnrner, ancl as a flarnespyeader I cover this ring With a plate a, having a scallopecl edge.
Having thns describecl the natnre of rny said invention ancl Ehe best means I know of Carrying the same into practical efiect, I elairn l. A gas 01 vapor bnrner for heating having a mixing-tube, an injector-nozzle, a plate above the nozzle in a position for the gas issning from the nozzle 130 impinge npon it, a perforaned cliaphragm in a position for the gas 130 pass thereuhrongh immediately after ithas impingecl npon the saicl plate, two concentrie cylinders on the top of the said mixing-tnbe, the inner cylinder being con1binecl Wih an invertecl trnncated hollow cone ancl the onter c vlincler having a fixecl cover snpported on the inner cylinder by cliscance-pieces, substantially as clescribed.
2. A gas 01 vapor bnrner having a mixingtnbe, two eoncentric cylinclers on the top thereof, Ehe inner eylinder being combined Wibh an invertecl trnneaed hollow cone and the onter cylinder having a fixed cover supporned on he inner cylinder by clistancepieces, an inverted conical 'ring on the cover of the said outer cylinder holding refractory material, ancl a fiarne-spreading plate covering ehe said fing, substantially as cleseribecl.
3. A gas or vapor bnrner for heating having a mixing-tnbe, an injeetor-nozzle, a plate above the nozzle in a position for the gas issning from the nozzle 110 im pinge npon it, a perforated cliaphragm in a position for the gas t0 pass therethrongh irnrnecliately after it has impinged npon the said plate, two concentric cylinders 0n the top of the said mixing-tnbe, the inner cylinder being cornbinecl with an invertecl trnneated hollow cone and the onter cylinder having a fixecl cover snpportecl on the inner cylinder by distanee-pieces, an inverted conical ring on the cover of the said onter cylinder holcling refractory material,
and a flan1e-spreading plate covering the said ring, substantially as described.
ek. A gas 0r vapor burner having a mixingtube a dash-plat-e near the 1OWOI end thereof, concentric tubes 01' cylinders a1; tl1e top cf said tube, 21 passage between the cylinders communicating with an upwardlyflaring passage int0 which the gas entors from the cylin dem, and a c0ver extending 0 v0r t;he cylinders; substantially as dcscribed.
5. A gas 01' vapor bu1ner having a mixing= tube, a dash-plate near thc 10W01' end 0f sah] tnbo, a pcrfomted diaphmgm separating the m1x1ng-tubo fron1 th0 burner, an upwnrdlyextending .1aring gas-passage, and 2L flaring disk abov0 said passagoand containing refractoyy materml; substant-uplly EIS described.
In tostnnony whcrcof l hav0 hereunto sei;
