JOHN F. BILLMAN, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
COOK-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 762,573, dated June 14, 1904.
Application filed October 23, 1903. $erial No. 178,209. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN F. BILLMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cook-Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention has relation to improvements in cook-stoves; and it consists in the novel construction of stove more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved stove. Fig. 2 is a mid dle vertical longitudinal section thereof, and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional detail on line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The object of my invention is to construct a cook and heating stove in which special provision shall be made for heating the oven when the latter is used for cooking purposes, such provision consisting in a specific disposition of flues, in detail described as follows:
Referring to the drawings, S represents an ordinary form of stove having a fire-pot 1 and oven 2. Below the oven is a longitudinal flue 3, to which the products of combustion and hot air find access through'a slot 4:, formed in the front oven plate or wall 5, said basal flue 3 communicating in the rear with a vertical flue 6, leading directly to the exit flue or pipe 7 Disposed a suitable distance above the roof of the oven is a wall 8, forming the compartment 9 and an upper flue 10, the latter being controlled by a swinging damper 11, pivoted along the upper extension 5 of the wall -5. When the damper 11 is down, the products take a direct course from the fire-box, through the flue 10, into the pipe 7, as shown by feathered arrows in Fig. 2. When the damper is up, the products take the course of the plain arrows, passing through the flue 3, flue 6, impinging partially against the wall or plate 8, thereby permitting accumulation of hot products in the compartment9 above the oven, thence out through the pipe 7 thoroughly heating the walls of the oven. When the products take the direct path, they are utilized for heating the water of any reservoir With which the stove may be provided.
Having described my invention, what I claim is A stove having a suitable oven, a fire-pot in front of same, a basal flue below the oven, the front oven wall or plate having an opening establishing communication between the fire-chamber and said flue, a rear vertical flue communicating with said basal flue, a deflecting wall or plate forming a compartment above the roof of the oven, and a flue between it and the top of the stove, an exit-flue communicating jointly with the rear flue" and top flue, and a damper pivoted in position to control the draft from the fire-pot to the top flue, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
