Upon the end of a trolley-pole .A, which errtends upwardly from a car and is provided with a spring or other means for giving it an hpwrrd tendency, is a fork B, comprising arms land 2, in which is secured a shaft 3. The usual trolley-wheel C for engagement, with the wire D is rotatably mounted upon the shaft 3, and. at the side 0f thetrolley wheel the similar guards E and Fare also rotatablymounted on the shaft 3KWVashers .4v and 5 are placed between the trolley-wheel and the guards to prevent the guards from being rotated by reason of friction with the trolley-wheel when the apparatus is'operating normally. Care shouldbe observed, however,
that the spaces between the wheel and guards are not'wide enough to permit the trolleywireto fall therein. Sleeves 6 and 7 on the shaft 3.- bear against the inside faces ofthe fork and against the bosses 8 upon the guards E and F, thereby properly positioning the wheel and guards.
The guards E and F are precisely alike, so that a description of one will apply to either. Each of the guards is eccentrie'ally mounted, and the farthest part 9 of. the face of each from the shaft is the narrowest, measured by projections on its axis, and'is inclined to the shaft. The inner edge of this part of the face is at least as great a distance from the shaft as the rim of the trolley-wheehwhile the outer Serial lid 199,815. (No model.)
