SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 761,317 dated. May 31, 1904. Application filed July 14, 1903. Serial No. 165,431. (No model.)
To an whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY M. MoOALL, a
I citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and'State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mechanical Movements, of which the following is a specificamay be made to describe two revolutions, or I one end of the shaft may be made to describe one rotation while the other end described a fraction of a revolution or a revolution and a fraction or several revolutions and a fraction. The construction by which this is accomplished consists of a fixed disk the periphery of which is engaged by one end of the shaft.
' said shaft being. pitched at an angle to the center of the disk and the centerof the opposite end of the shaft being in alinement with the center of the disk. A suitablemeans is provided for retaining the shaft in engagementwith the disk and also for transmitting motion to the shaft.
Inthe accompanyingdrawings, Figure l'is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the device. Fig. 3 is a sectional view out on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a sectional View of the device cut on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
The device consists of a disk 1, which is centrally located in the cup 2 and arranged concentrically with relation to the flange 3 of the said cup. The periphery ofthe disk 1 may be provided with gear-teeth. One end of the shaft 4 engages the periphery of the disk 1 and is held in contact therewith by the the center of the fixed disk 1.

The end of the shaft 4 away from the disk 1 is supported by a pin 6, having at its end the ball 7 which enters a recess 8, located in the said shaft end, or any other suitable means may be provided for supporting the shaft end.
The shaft 4 in the vicinity of the point 5 is provided with an oscillating disk 9, which rotates with the shaft and meshes with the flanged gear-wheel 10, the flanges 11-of the said wheel maintaining the said disk 9 at all times substantially at right angles to a line drawn from the point 5 to the center of the disk 1. Any suitable connection may be provided between the shaft 4 and the disk 9.
The power for operating That shown in the drawings consists of the pinsll, having rounded ends located in the central opening from the disk 9 and entering the grooves 12 out in the shaft 4, the said shaft being provided with the collars 13, located on opposite sides of the disk 9. It will thus be seen that as the end of the shaft at the point 5 rotates the disk 9 will also rotate,
but not at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the said shaft, but at right angles to the line drawn from the point 5 to the center of-the disk 1. p
By varying the relative sizes diametrically of the disk 1 with relation to the end of the shaft 4 which comes in contact with the same the variations between the revolutions of the shaft at one end and the rotations at the opposite end, as above described, are accomplished.
This mechanical movement is especially designed to be used on gas-engines and is especially adapted for operating the igniting device of such an engine. I The revolutions of the shaft 4 may come in contactat intervals withthe igniting device and operate the same Thus by changing or varying the size of the disk 1 the explosion of the engine may be timed so that the shaft 4: may make several rotations but the igniting device will be operated on each revolution only.
' Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Amechan'ical movement consisting of a moving shaft rotating at one point and rotating and revolving at another point,a fixed disk engaging the end of said shaft, a disk attached to said shaft and a means for maintaining the last said disk substantially parallel with the first said disk consisting of pins attached to the last said disk and entering grooves provided in said shaft.
2. A mechanical movement consisting of a moving shaft rotating at one point and rotating and revolving at another point, a fixed disk engaging the end of said shaft, a disk attached to said shaft, and a means for maintaining the last said disk substantially parallel With the first said disk.
3. A mechanical movement consisting of a moving shaft revolving at one point and revolving and rotating at another point, said shaft having at one end a recess, a pin entering said recess, a fixed disk engaging the opposite end of said shaft and a disk attached to said shaft.
4. A mechanical movement consisting of a moving shaft rotating at one point and rotating and revolving at another point, a fixed disk engaging the rotating and revolving end of said shaft, a cup surrounding and supporting said disk and the end of the shaft, and a disk attached to the shaft.
5. A mechanical movement consisting of a moving shaft rotating at one point, and rotating and revolving at another, a fixed disk ongaging the rotating and revolving end of said shaft, a flanged cup surrounding and supporting said disk and the end of said shaft, and a disk attached to the shaft.
6. A mechanical movement consisting of a moving shaft rotating at one point and rotating and revolving at another point, a fixed disk engaging the rotating and revolving end of said shaft and a cup surrounding and supporting said disk and the end of the shaft.
7. A mechanical movement consisting of a moving shaft rotating at one point and rotating and revolving at another point, the said shaft having at its end sections cuttherein, a fixed disk having teeth adapted to enter said sections.
8. A mechanical movement consisting of a moving shaft rotating at one point and rotating and revolving at another point, said shaft having cut in one end sections, a fixed disk having teeth adapted to enter said sections and a cup supporting said disk and the end of the shaft.
