From the-irons 24-. vertical twisted bars 450 2 depend and carry at their lower ends'bearings 41 for journals supporting rotary concavolby hinges 23 with brackets and the latter 76 by rods 25 with acrossbar 26, secured to the 73" convex furrow-opening disks 4C2, located at an I00 angle with relation to each other and the boots 32 above referred to, located in a line between and to the rear of said disks. The lower ends of bars are braced against rearward bending by yoke-bars 43,pivotally secured between their ends in a bifurcated portion of bracketlink 38.
A short shaft 44 has rotary mounting at one end in a hinge 23 and at its other end in a bearing on tongue 27. The shaft 44 being thus located coincident with the hinge 23, the maintenance of said shaft equidistant from the axle will be insured regardless of the adjustment of the frame and disks. On this shaft 44 three sprocket-wheels 45 of varying diameters and number of teeth are secured. Any of them maybe connected by a sprocket-chain 46 with any of a like graduated series of sprocketwheels 47 on axle 2, and a sprocket-chain 48 connects one of the wheels 45 with a sprocketwheel 49 on the seed-dropping shaft 50, extending below the seedboxes and operating any desired seed-dropping mechanism.
The sprocket-wheels 47 on axle 2 are locked to turn together in one series and are locked to axle 2 by a spring-pressed clutch 51, on which latter a lug 52 is located, and a camlug 53 is provided on tubular casting 11, so that when said casting is turned in elevating the disks the cam-lug 53 will be moved into the path of lug 52, throw the clutch, and prevent movement of chain 46 when the axle 2 'turns,.thus permitting the machine to be irons 24 are parallel guide-rods 54, between which four blocks 55 are mounted to slide. These blocks are pivotally connected to the upper ends of levers 56, pivoted between their ends on lugs 57 secured to the disk-bearing supports and carrying at their lower ends scrapers 58 adjacent to the concave working face of the four disks.
A lever 59 is fulcrumed between its ends at the center of guide-rods 54, extends to a horizontalposition longitudinally of the machine, and has an upwardly-bent operatinghandle 60 at its rear end in proximity to the operators seat. Link rods 61 connect the forward end of lever 59 with the first and third blocks 55 from the right of the machine, and similar link rods 62 connect the other two blocks 55 with the lever 59 on the opposite side of its fulcrum, so that when the lever is swung in one direction all of the scrapers will be moved to a position to scrape the disks and away from the disks when the lever is swung in the opposite direction. To limit the movement of this lever 59 in both directions, I provide a curved loop 63, secured to the machineframe and through which the lever is passed .and its movement confined or restricted thereby. 1
The operation of my improvements is as follows: The disks 42 open a furrow into which the boots 32 direct the seed, over which wheels 3 pass to cover or bury the seed. The rotation of axle 2, through the medium of sprocket-wheels 47, chain 46, sprocket-wheels 45, chain 48, sprocket-wheel 49, and shaft 50, operates the seed-dropping mechanism to control the feed, and the lever 59 can be moved to clean the disks at will. When it is desired to elevate the disks, casting 11 is turned, through the medium of hand-lever 18 and foot-lever 21, to raise bars 14 and the diskframe, as is readily understood, and this movement of casting 11 moves cam-lug 53 into the path of lug 52 on clutch 51 to disconnect the sprocket-wheels 47 from axle 2 and discontinue the seed-dropping operation.
A great many slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I would have it understood thatI do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i 1. In a double lister, the combination with a main frame supported on wheels, a diskframe hinged to the main frame, seed-dropping mechanism including seedboxes on the disk-frame, seed-dropping boots below the seedboxes, upright arms on said boots, each of said arms having a series of perforations. and pins to be passed through any of said perforations and into the seedboxes to secure the boots at any desired elevation.
2. In a double lister, the combination of two pairs of concavo-convex disks located at an angle with relation to each other, parallel guiderods above the disks, four movable blocks in said guide-rods, four levers pivoted between their ends and connected at their upper ends to said blocks, scrapers on the lower ends of said levers adjacent to the concave working faces of said disks, and means for moving said blocks to simultaneously move the scrapers toward and away from the disks.
3. In a double lister, the combination of two pairs of disks located at an angle with relation to each other, scraper-levers pivoted between their ends and located adjacent to the disks, an operating-lever fulcrumed between its ends, rods connecting the upper ends of alternate scraper -levers with the operatinglever on opposite sides of its fulcrum to simultaneously move the scrapers toward or away from the disks.
4.
