PATENT OFFICE.
LEE ROBERTS, OF WATKINS, NEW YORK.
CUTTING-NIPPERS.
- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 760,807, dated May 24, 1904.
Application filed November 11, 1903. Serial No. 180,736. (No model.)
, ess of shoeing them.
The object of my invention is to provide nippers which will not become clogged with the clippings and, further, to provide increased leverage for the cutting-jaws.
I attain this object by means of the arrangement of the parts of the nippers as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a sideelevation of my improved nippers, and Fig. 2 a top view of the same.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the two views.
A and B represent the handles or lever members of the nippers, said handles being pivoted together at O.
D and E are substantiallycircular arms attached to the opposite sides of the handles A and B, back of the pivot-point, and carried around said point to meet together in the cutting-jaws F and G. These jaws may be made either integral with the arms D and E or may be detachably secured thereto.
In operation it will be evident that as the handles A and B are separated the jaws F and G will also be separated by reason of the movement imparted to the arms D and E by the handles A and B as they move apart. By
7 closing the handles together again the jaws will also be brought'together, and the cuttings from the hoof will be left free to drop out from the nippers by reason of the large clearancespace between the jaws and the arms and the pivot-point. LA large opening in the jaws is also attained by means of this construction, and it will be observed that by properly proportioning and positioning the parts an increase in leverage may be obtained between the handles and the-cutting-jaws over What is possible in the ordinary nippers in which the jaws are formed directly from the handles forward of the pivot-point.
Without restricting myself to the precise form and arrangement of the parts of the tool as herein illustrated and described, what I claim as myinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. Cutting-nippers comprising a pair of handles or lever members pivoted together and arms attached thereto back of the pivotpoint, said arms being rigidly attached to the handles, bent around thepivot-pOint, and provided with cutting-jaws where they come together.
2. Cutting-nippers comprising a pair of handles on lever members pivoted together, substantially circular arms rigidly attached to said handles back of the pivot-point, said arms passing across the handles in opposite directions and around the pivotpoint, and cutting-jaws carried by said arms where they come together.
In testimony whereof 'I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEE ROBERTS.
