PATENT OFFICE.
JOHNATHAN L. WELDON, OF KOPPERL, TEXAS.
PLOW.
SPCIEICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 760,767, dated May 24, 1904. i
Application filed September 23, 1903. Serial No. 174,355. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHNATHANL. WELDON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kopperl, in the county or' Bosque and State 'of Texas, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Plows', of which the following'is a specification.
. This invention has relation to agricultural implements, and most especially to the type designed for plowing or cultivating the soil, the chief object being to devise a construction which is readily convertible from aturningplow into a middle-burster orV single-stock, according to the nature of the land and the character of work to be performed.
Fora full description of the inventionand the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description ,and drawings hereto attached.
Whilethe essential and characteristic features of the invention are susceptible of modication, still the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichy Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow embodying the' invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the standard at a point immediately above thefurrow-bar. Fig. 3 is a detail View of the rear portion of the plowin- Verted and having the furrow-baromitted.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters. i
f The plow-beam 1 may be of usual construction of the type provided with an integral standard 2, which in the present instance is widened at its lower end, as shown at 3, and is received between the complemental bars or f members comprising the furrow-bar 4. The
edge slopes rearwardly and downwardly, said.
blade being vertically adjustable to com pen -sate for wear or to admit of its cutting edge being projected to a greater or less distance below the furrow-bar.
The stock 6, adapted to receive atits lower end the plow-point of any desired type, is composed of two bars or members transversely spaced and clamped against opposite sides of the standard 2 by means of bolts 7, which when loosened admit of inclining the stock moreorless according to the required pitch of the plow and its relation with reference to the furrow-bar. These bolts are arranged to come the one above the other below the curved portion of the beam, so as to prevent vertical `movement of the stock, thereby-materially bracing the handle-bars and preventing their turninglupon the pivot fastening or bolt9..
Handle-bar irons or attachments 8 are ar-.
ranged upon opposite sides of the standard 2 andare pivotally connected thereto by means of the bolt or fastening 9. The front ends of the irons 8 are brought together and come between the members or elements of the plowstock 6 and are secured thereto by theA bolt or fastening 10, passed through openings in coincident relation to the parts 6 and 8. The
rear ends of the irons 8 are upwardly and rearwardly diverged, and the handle-bars 1l are bolted or otherwisesecuredat their lower ends thereto. Braces l2 connect the handlebars with the rear portion of the beam 1.
By loosening the bolts or fastenings 7 the plow-stock 6 may be turned upon its pivotal connection l() with the handle-bar irons 8 to secure the desired adjustment of the plowpoint or shovel, and a retightening of the fastenings 7 lxes the plow-stock in the required adjusted position.
Having thus described the invention, what is'claimed as new is- In a plow or like implement, the combination of the beam having av 'rearwardly and downwardly curved portion, handle-bar irons arranged upon opposite sides of the curved portion of thebeam and having their front ends brought together in frontthereof and their rear ends upwardly and rearwardly diverged, handle-bars secured to the rear extensions of said irons, a plow-stock composed of corresponding members arranged upon opposite sides of the beam and front endsof the handle-bar irons and pivotally connected to the latter, and bolts connecting the upper ends of the members of the plow-stock and adapted to clamp them against the sides of the said curved portion ofthe beam, said bolts being arranged the one above the other below the said curved portion to prevent vertical movement IO of the said stock and brace the handle-bars, substantially as specilied.
In testimony whereof Iaiix my signature in Ypresence of two witnesses.
