To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO S. PIKE, of Malden, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massa .Chusetts, have invented certain new and useful 5 Improvements in Pneumatic Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in pneumatic carriers, and especially to buffer-heads for such carriers.
My invention consists of certain novel features hereinafter. described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to Figs. 4 and 5', which illustrate a modification, A represents a carrier for pneumatic transit systems having the usual contact-rings B (one of which is shown) at the front end of the carrier. The front end of the shell of the carrier A is turned inwardly and formed into a concave receptacle TD, so that the shell and receptacle are of one piece. Within the receptacle D is a backing of felt or other elastic material F and a leather facing made up of four disks G, H, I, and J and these disks are fastened together by a circular row of stitching, K. The disks Cr and H are smaller in diameter than disks I and J. In making up the buffer-head above described the backing F is placed in the receptacle D,the disks G, H,I,and J are placed on said yielding material, the concentric ring L is then placed over the disks Cr and H, resting on the disk I, as shown, and the flange C and flange E and the ring L are then securely fastened together by a circular row of rivets M, and the leather facing and felt backing are thecarrier.
Having thus described the nature of my invention and set forth a construction embodyto secure by Letters Patent of the States, is-
. 1. In a pneumatic carrier, a receptacle located in one end of the carrier, a yielding buffer-head of different diameters located in said receptacle, and an annular ring of less diameter than the larger diameter of said yielding buffer-head secured to said carrier for holding the buifer-head in position.
2. In a pneumatic carrier, areceptacle located in one end of the carrier, a bulfervhead in said receptacle consisting of elastic material in said receptacle and disks of leather of different diameters sewed together, and a ring of less internal diameter than the larger leather disks secured to said carrier for holding the United buffer-head in position.
