TO ALL WHOM IT MAYCONCERN:
Be it known that we, .ALBERT M. WHITE, of Thompsonville, inA the county of Hartford, and State of Conn'e'otic-ut, and EDWARD G. BURNHAM, of Bridgeport,'in the county of Faireld, and State lof Connecticut, have invented certain' new and useful Improvements in Draught-Apparatuspfor'Soda and Mineral-Waters; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,and exact description of the same, reference b'eing had to the accompanying drawings,'maling a portionof this specification,l inwhich-` Figurel is a. vertical longitudinalsection of an apparatus made according to our invention. The invention further consists in so combining a supplemental valve, which serves to'close thejust-mentioned tubular stem,with the valve to which the said stem is attached, that the upward movement of the supplemental valve, after having opened the stem topermit the ejectment of fthe small-er stream, will raise the valve having such stem attached thereto, in such manner as to allow the larger stream to pass through and from the passage in the bib of the apparatus; the object mentioned being by these means effectually secured.

The T-shaped body of the faucet or apparatus is marked A in-the drawings, the bib thereof being indicated atA A*. The horizontal passage b of'thel body connects at its end, a, with the draught-pipe to whichA the apparatus is attached, and c represents the-vertical p assage'of the bili Ai", the two passages b c, just mentioned, communicating at their inner ends withan internal cylindrical or other suitably-shaped chamber, al. B represents a valve, theseat a of which is situatedat the bottomgof the chamber d, or, in other words, at the upperend of the passage c. Thisvalve B is furnished `vwith-a downwardly-extending tubular stem, e, the lower end of which may be steadied within the passage' c by'radial' spursv eX, the outer .extremities of which rest against the surrounding internal surface of thebib. 'lhe valve'Bhas formed upon its upper sid-e an annularrim, f, into the upper cud of which i's screwed an annular 'n'ut,g, a chamber, t, being by this means provided in the upper part of the valve B,'above a'valve-seat, t', formed at'the upper end of the internal' passageway ofthe tubular sten, the aforesaid annular-'rim f being formed with openings or perforationsf, by `which the chamber L ofthe valve B communicates with thc horizontal passage b, as hereinafter further explained. Provided at Athe outer'end of the body A, above lthe chamber d thereof, is a fixed nut, m, through which is passed a vertical valve-stem, C, whichis formed with a threaded portion, n, screwedint'o` Athe aforesaid nut, as shown more fully .in iig. 1, and,-is furnished at its upper end with a suitable hand-wheel, rr Upon the lower end of'this valve-stem C is a valve, Cwhich 4acts as 'supplemental to the valve B, and which, Vwhen resting upon the salve seat b 'of the valve B, serves toiclose the tubular stem e, as herein presently further set forth. When the valve B rests upon its seat a', it shuts oil communication between the passage li and the passage c; and when the valve-stem C is screwed or moved downward to bring the valve C* upon .the s'eat b', all communioation between the herenhefore-mentoned passage I and the tubular `stem e lis shut oft', thus'wholly closing the apparatus. In using the latter, the valve-stem() is turned, by means of its hand-wheel r, in such manner that its screwed or threaded portion, n,A working in the fixed nut m, raises the said valve-stem, and brings the lvalve C* away from its seat, b', on the'valve whereupon thel liquid from the -'passage b passes through-the openingsf into the chamber It of'thevalve B, and thence, in n. small stream, through the tubulaistem e. When such small stream has been "continued for the desired length of time,`the valve-stem C, with its valve, 0*, is raised still farther, by turning the same, as'just hereinbefore set forth,'whereupo'n the annular flvanh'm of the valve C*l strikes the shoulder formed by the lower side of the annular nut g', and lifts the valve B from its seat,
a', and permits the. liquid toow from the 'passage I; to the passage c of the bib, whence it issues in a large stream, as` required, to complete the illingl of the/glass or vessel employed to receive the soda-water or other` like liquid. In' order to stop theyflow, the valve-stem C is simply turned in au oppositedirection, to move the same downward, and thus bring the two valves, C* B, into position, to close the tubular stem e and the passage c of the bib, as hereinbefore explained. y v
What we laim as our'invention, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The tubular stem e of the valve B, arranged within the passage ot` the bib A*, substantially as and for the purpose specified. i 4 Y 2. The supplemental valve 0*, arranged,.in combination with the valve B, -on the' tubular stem e, and so constructed thatafter opening the said tubular stem, the continued movement of such supplemental valve shall lift the valve B to open the passage c of the bib,'subs`tantially as and for the purpose specified.
