DISPLAY-RACK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 759,999, dated May 17, 1904.

Application filed October 8, 1903.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HENRY (J. HAMILTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elmira, in the county of Ohemung and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in racks for displaying brooms, brushes, and other long-handled implements, such as garden-tools and the like; and my object is to provide a strong and light rack adapted to hold any long-handled implement or tool and to be used either in connection with a standard to be set upon the floor or a counter or to be hung suspended from the ceiling.

A further object is to provide an improved clamp whereby the lower end of the handle may be gripped so as to hold the tool or implement on the rack with the working end hung downward in a position convenient for inspection.

I accomplish the above objects by means of the construction and arrangement of the several parts of my device, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 representsa side elevation of my rack; Fig. 2, a plan View of the upper portion of the same, and Figs. 3 and 4 details showing my improved clamp.

A represents a central tubular stem, to which are attached by suitable arms the rings B and C of different diameters, formed of sheet metal and held apart and strengthened by a plurality of light connecting-bars D. The upper and smaller ring B is provided with a horizontal flange I), in which are holes to receive the upper ends of the broom or other handles, and the lower and larger ring C is provided with a plurality of clamps E to engage and grip the lower ends of the handles. These clamps are so constructed as to grip the handles sufliciently tight to support the entire weight of the broom or other implement and are preferably made of stiff wire Serial No. 176,216. (No model.)

6 e are vertical legs adapted to be soldered or otherwise fastened on the ring 0. From these logs the gripping-arms of the clamp are formed by forward projections inclined toward one another with a slight outward turn at the free ends, the wire being then bent backward and inward to the coil e, whereby when a handle is placed between the gripping-arms it will be strongly gripped thereby, being partially encircled on opposite sides by reason of the opposing angles at which the forward and backward projections are set.

At the top of the standard A, I provide a ring or hook, as indicated at F, by which the rack may be suspended from the ceiling. I,

also provide a standard G, the upright of which may be inserted in the tube A, which at a suitable distance above the lower end is provided with an internal rest, as indicated at o, to receive the upper end of the standard and upon which the rack may be rotated.

All parts of the rack are preferably made of sheet metal, although they may be made of other materials, if so desired, andithe standard will be of light construction, preferably of wood. As so formed my displayrack is adapted to be either hung from the ceiling or stood upon the floor or counter of a store, as may suit the convenience of the Storekeeper, and the location of the rack may be readily changed from floor to ceiling, as desired.

Having thus described my improvements, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A display-rack comprising acentral supporting-stem, a pair of rings secured. to said stem, the upper ring having holes to receive the upper ends of long-handled implements and the lower ringbeing provided with springclamps to grip the lower ends of said handles and support the weight of the implements.
