STEREOPTICON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 759,671, dated May 10, 1904.

To ttZl whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEs'r D. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVenona'h, in the county of Gloucester, State of New J ersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stereopticons, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to stereopticons.
It consists of means for displaying pictures by means of an electric lamp, forsupporting said lamp within the tube or body of the device, and for conserving theelectric energy.
It further consists in providing a complete convenient device for the purpose named, in-
5 eluding a battery for supplying current to the lamp.
It further consists of novel features of construction, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure 1 represents in elevation a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents sections through the lines as m and y respectively. except that the latter figure represents the box as closed.

4 The operation is as follows: When it is desired to use the lantern, the box 1 is opened and the shelf 5 raised and supported by the leg 17, as shown in Fig. 1. VVhen' the slide 16 is in position in the holder 9, the button 1d is pushed in to complete the electric circuit, and the light from the lamp 1O illuminates the picture. Before the slide is moved or withdrawn the light is extinguished, so that no current is wasted and no movement or jerking of the picture is shown on the screen. l Vhen the 5 exhibition is' concluded, the whole working apparatus may be inclosed in the box 1 and conveniently carried by the handle 3.
The advantages of my device are, first, its completeness in that the projector, the lamp, and the battery are conveniently mounted in a very small box, which may also be used to carry a collection of slides; second, that the projector or stereopticon folds down within the box, where it is perfectly protected, and 0 may immediately be raised to an operative position; third, that the box may be easily handled and may throw its picture in any direction, horizontal or vertical, thus enabling the operator to use the ceiling of a room as a screen; fourth, the inclusion of the push-button with the device, which prevents any unnecessary waste of electric energy and is so placed that it can be readily manipulated by the hand which supports the complete device. 7
It is evident that various changes ma, be made by those skilled in the art which will come within the scope of my invention, and Ido not, therefore, desire to be limited in every instance to the exact construction herein shown and described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A portable stereoptieon outfit compris- 8O ing a box, a hinged shelf within said box, a stereoptieon mounted on said shelf, an incandescent electric lamp in said stereoptieon, a storage battery in said box and Wired to said lamp and a push-button in the circuit of said 5 lamp and battery.
2. A portable stereopticon outfit comprising a box, a shelf hinged within said box and adjacent the upper edge of one side thereof, a stcreopticon mounted on said shelf so as to be 9 alternatively placed within and above the sides of said box, an incandescent lamp in said stereopticon, an electric battery in said box and wired to said lamp and a push-button in the circuit of said lamp and battery.
8. A portable stereopticon outfit comprising a box, a partition in said box forming a trio battery in said box and Wired to said lamp compartment for slides, a shelf hinged Within and a push-button in the circuit of said lamp said box and adjacent the upper edge of one and battery.
