of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the drawings accompanying and forming a part of the same.
The object of our invention is to provide means for connecting an electric conductor to a pipe, as one of the gas or water pipes of a building, which shall not only be certain and efficient in operation, but also more easily applied and neater in appearance than the unsightly devices heretofore employed.
Our invention is simple and can be manufactured at comparatively small cost. It consists, essentially, of a band adapted to encircle a pipe or other object and a clamping device for securely fastening the band thereto, together with means for attaching the wire or conductor.
Referring now to the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view showing one of the clamp members swung out of its operative position. Fig. 2 is a side view of Fig. 1 with the clamping device in section. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line 3 3, Fig. 2, but showing the conductor and band-sleeve in elevation. Fig. 1 is a plan view of a modification, of which Fig. 5 is an end view. Fig. 6 is a further modification.
As will be seen in the various figures of the drawings, a band 1 is provided, preferably of brass or other good conducting material, one end of which is passed through an opening 2 in a plate 3 and fastened in place in any c011 venient manner, as by bending the same over one side of the plate 3, as shown at 4, Fig. 3. The other end of the band 1 is also passed through the same or a similar opening in the plate and fastened, a tongue 5 being cut out of the band and bent over the side of the plate for that purpose, as shown in Figs. 1,

The various parts being arranged as shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4, it is obvious that if the screws 6 7 be screwed in against the pipe 10 the band 1 will be drawn. very tightly around the same, while the flat ends of the screws bearing with. the same firmness will also furnish a good elec trical contact.
The grinding of the screws on the pipe pro duces a clean bright surface on each, and both being held very tightly together the connection at these points constitutes, in fact, the principal contact.
We have shown several methods of connecting the conductor to the band. For example, one end of the band may be bent to form a sleeve 11, Figs. 1 and 3, into which the wire or conductor 12 is passed, the end of the same being wrapped tightly around the sleeve, as at 13, where it may be soldered, if desired, and the sleeve itself filled with solder. In Figs. st and 5 the sleeve is arranged transversely, so that the wire or conductor enters the same parallel to the pipe 10. It will thus be seen that our device may be readily applied or removed and that it fornishes a positive connection with the pipe or .other object to which it is secured. At the same time it is not unsightly or cumbersome in appearance and may be made as ornamental as desired. It is understood, of course, that the forms shown are typical merely and are not the only embodiments of which our invention is capable.
