COUPLING FOR SECTIONAL OONVEYER-SPOUTS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent. N0. 757,573, dated April 19, 1904.
Application filed October 17, 1903.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLIE FERNANDY SPENCER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alexandria Bay, in the county of J efierson and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Couplings for Sectional Conveyer-Spouts, of which th following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in couplings for the sections of conveyer-spouts such as are used in handling grain, coal, or other material to carry the same from one elevation to another, the object of the invention being to provide coupling means for the hollow conical sections of a flexible conveyor,- the couplings being of such construction that one section of the conveyer may be held in sliding connection with the adjacent one and permitted to assume such angle with respect thereto as may be desired to give the proper curve to the conveyor.
' The invention consists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be here-- inafter set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a part of a conveyer-spout connected by couplings made in accord with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a modification, and Fig. 3 is also a side elevation of such modification from another point of view. 1
Referring to the drawings, A designates the sections of the chute or spout, the same being in the form of hollow truncated cones, the smaller end of one section in practice being positioned within the larger end of the adjacent section.
To the exterior of each section A there are secured fixtures B, which maintain in sliding engagement therewith links or rods C. The fixtures B are located adjacent to the larger end of the sections of the chute or spout, being riveted thereto and shaped to retain in 1 sliding engagement therewith one end of a llink or rod 0, the other end of the link or lrod being held in movable and'detachahle engagement with the fixture on the adjacent section of the spout. one by two or more couplings, the links thereof being in sliding engagement with the fixtureon one section and in pivotal engagement with the fixture on the adjacent section.
In practice I prefer to provide each section A with couplings made of heavy wire, the part B comprising a bar 6 bent near its ends so as to be positioned above and parallel with the face of the section to which it is secured. The wire is shaped to provide eyes or loops 5' and 5 through which are passed rivets for attaching the fixture to the section A, and there is present an eye 5 with which engages the looped end of the link (3. 'Thelink Chas one end bent at substantially right angles to its main portion, and beyond the bend is an eye 0, which encircles the bar Z), and upon the other end is formed a loop a for engagement ably attached to a plate having upwardly-projecting lugs to receive a pintle, said pintle being removable to separate the coupling.

A coupling for sectional conveyer-spouts, comprising a fixture rigidly attached to'one section of the conveyer, a link one end of which is maintained in sliding engagement with the fixture the other end of the link beingin movable and separable engagement with a fixture on an adjacent section of the spout, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
