Be it known that I, ANTHONY S. MARTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maiden, in the county of Catawba and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Ticket Stamp and Punch, of which the following is a specification. 7

My invention relates to a combined ticket stamp and punch, and has for its objects to produce a device of this character which will be simple of construction, efficient in operation, one in which the original and duplicate sections of the ticket will be dated at a single stroke of the stamp-head, and one in which'a plurality of independently-adjustable punchers for perforating the original section of the ticket to indicate the year, month, and day of sale of the ticket will be operated simultaneously with the operation of thestamping-head.

To these ends the invention comprises the novel details of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stamp and punch constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional elevation on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the base of my improved stamp and punch in the form of a hollow case comprising a top plate 2, side walls 3 4, and end walls 5 6. The top plate 2 has a forwardly-extending horizontal arm or portion 7 to which is secured in any suitable manner aspiring-blade 8, employed for separating the original from the duplicate section of the ticket.

9 indicates a stamping-arm pivoted at its rear end, as at 10, between ears 11, projecting upward from the rear end ofthe base. arm is provided at its forward end with a handpiece 12, a laterally-extending horizontal arm 13, and a pair of spaced head members 14 and 15. The arm is normally maintained in an elevated position by means of a spring 16, which engages a lug 17, depending from the under face of the arm, and a similar lug 18, which when the arm is depressed against the action of the spring, under influence of a blow upon the handpiece 12, the head members 14 15 cooperate, respectively, with character-bearing dies 19 20, which are associated in any suitable manner with the top plate of the base 1 for simultaneously stamping the original and duplicate sections of a ticket, the dies 19 20 being provided with an overlying stampingribbon 21 of any suitable construction and operating as usual.

22 22 indicate a pair of horizontal arms which are associated in any suitable manner with the base 1one at the forward and the other at the rear end thereof. These arms project laterally from the base and sustain a guide-plate 23, which is spaced from the side of the base sufliciently to form an opening 24.' Adjustably mounted upon the guide-plate 23 are a pair of punches v25 26. These punches are identical in construction and operation. Hence I will describe but one in detail. Each punch comprises a body portion 27, which is slotted, as at 28, for engagement with the guide-plate and is adjustably secured thereto by means of a set-screw 29, the body being further slotted, as at 30, which constitutes a receiving-opening for the ticket or other article to be punched. Each punch is provided with a reciprocating member 31, which is vertically disposed in a guideway 32, formed in a slotted head 33 and controlled by a spring 34, which is situated within the slotted head, the body of the punch beneath the plunger being perforated, these perforations being in alinement with the active end of the punchplunger and with the opening 24 to permit of the punchings freely escaping, as will be readily understood.

35 indicates a horizontal member which is disposed and slidable longitudinally of the base 1 and is guided in its sliding movement by a suitable guideway formed in a block 36, associated in any suitable manner with the base 1 at its rear end. This member, which is slotted longitudinally, as at 37, is provided at its forward end with a head 38, in which is projects upward from the top plate 2, and

mounted a vertically reciprocating punchplunger 39, under control of a spring 40, mounted in a'recess 41 of the head, the member beneath the plunger being provided with suitable perforations, which register with the plunger, and the base beneath the member being provided with a longitudinal opening 42,

through which the punchings freely escape. The slot 37 in the member 35 is designed to receive the ticket or other article under operation and to maintain the same in proper register with the punches 26, the adjustability of the member serving to permit of its proper arrangement relative to said punches and the arrangement of the parts according to the size of the ticket to be acted upon.

43 indicates a presser-plate which is pivoted, as at 44:, between ears 45, formed upon the upper end of a vertical standard 4:6, bolted or. otherwise secured to the side wall 4: of the base at its rear end. This plate normally overlies the upper ends of all three of the punch-plungers, andwhen the stamping-arm 9 is operated by a blow upon thehandpiece 12 the horizontal arm 13 acts upon the plate 43 to cause the same to simultaneously operate the three punches.

In practice the punch 26 serves to perforate the ticket to indicate the year, the punch 25 to indicate the month, and the punch 39 to indicate the day of the sale of the ticket, and owing to the independent adjustability of the said parts they may of course be changed as circumstances require and as will be readily understood.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I produce a device which is simple of'construction, efiicientin operation, and one in which tickets may be readily and rapidly dated in duplicate and properly punched and with greatv accuracy, the partsbeing simultaneously operated by a single stroke of the hand upon the handpiece'12, as above explained,

and in attaining these ends it is to be understood that I do not limit or confine myself to the precise details herein shown and described, inasmuch as various minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is v 1. Ina device of the class described, the combination with a base, of a vertically-movable stamping-head, a plurality of punches adjustable independently in aplane parallel with the surface of the base, and operative connections between the stamping-head and punches for simultaneously operating the latter when the former is actuated.

2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a base, of a vertically-movable stamping-head, a plurality of punches adjustable independently in a plane parallel with the surface of the base, a vertically-depressible plate overlying the punches, and an arm associated with the stamping-head and acting upon the plate to simultaneously operate the punches when the head is actuated.

3. In a device of the class described, the combination with a base having-an extended portion provided with a blade, of a verticallymovable stamping-head sustained above the base, a plurality of independently-adjustable punches, and operative connections between the stamping-head and punches for simultaneously operating the latter when the former is actuated.

4. In a device of the class described, the combination with a base, of a movable arm associated with the base and carrying a stamping head, a guide-plate associated with the base and spaced therefrom, a pair of independently-adjustable punches mounted upon the guide-plate, a sliding member carrying a punch, and means operable by the movement of the stamping-arm for simultaneously operating the punches.
