TELEPHONE CALL ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 756,183, dated March 29, 1904.

Be it known that I, J AsoN J. NYE, a citizen of' the United States, residing at Brookfield, in the county of Orange and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Telephone Call Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to the type of attachments for use in connection with a telephone whereby the sound of' the call-bell may be transmitted to a distant room or rooms, thereby obviating the necessity for sending a special messenger from the oflice to a distant room to apprise a guest that some one wishes to converse with him at the telephone.
The invention consists, essentially, of the novel features and details of construction which hereinafter will be more particularly set forth, illustrated, and finally claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of' the specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of' a telephone embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a front view of the transmitter having the invention in place. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the bonnet. Fig. 4. is vertical central section of the bonnet and tapering connection.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The telephone is indicated at l and may be of any make. The attachment comprises, essentially, a drum or bonnet 2, flaring toward its rear or attaching end and provided with an outer flange 3, pierced at intervals to receive the fastenings by means of' which it is attached to the transmitter or 'other portion of the telephone, so as to extend over the bell and collect the sound for transmission to the required room or point connected by tube or pipe with said bonnet. The outer end of the bonnet or drum is open, as shown at fi, to permit the sound of the bell. to escape into the room in which the telephone is located, so as Serial No. 150,438. (No model.)

An opening is formed in the upper side of the bonnet, and a flaring connection 5 is pivoted thereto and is adapted to have the pipe 6 coupled thereto for conveying the sound to the distant room or apartment, as indicated at 7 A closure 8 is provided for the open end of the pipe or tube to enable the sound to be cut off when the room is not occupied. A branch pipe or tube 9 eX- tends from pipe 6 and may run in any direction and communicate with a room or apartment, as 10, for conveying the sound thereto when the bell of the telephone is rung.
The drum or bonnet may be `connected by tubing With any number of rooms or apartments, each receiving the sound when the bell of the telephone is rung, and a clerk may communicate with the desired party by speaking into the bonnet, thereby enabling the party called to be placed in quick communication with the party calling.
In order that the guest may converse with the party calling at the phone Without leaving his room, the tube is provided with a branch 12, to which the receiver is fitted, and a flexible tube 13 is connected with the tube leading into the room to be placed against the ear of the guest.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new isv In combination with a telephone, a flaring bonnet fitted over the bell thereof and having an opening in its outer end, a flaring connection applied to a side of the bonnet, a tube coupled to said iiaring connection, and a second tube branching from the main tube and leading to a diiIerent point, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
