Description

@uiten tatr @anni @Hire HEZEKIAH MUNROE, 0F 'FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
Leners Patent No. 75,564, dated March 17,1868.
IMPROVED GASTER FOR FURNITURE.
@Ligt Stigetirlt nimh tu im time tttett ateut ant linking ont nf its tante.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY ONCERN:
Be it known that I, HEZEKIAHMUNROlm-of Fall River, in the countyot` Bristol, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and improved Caster; Aend-I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure l is a 4vertical central section ot' my improved caster through the line :c x, iig. 2.
Figure 2 is a horizontal section of the same through the line'y y, fig. 1.
` Similar lettersot reference indicate-corresponding parts.
This invention refers to the improvement of casters for tables, bedsteads, stools, and other articles of furniture by the introduction of horizontal friction-rollers arranged around the spindle ofthe caster-wheels, whereby the latter will turn more freely and. easily to the line oi' direction in which the article of furniture supported by it is moved, together with other pnrts perfecting the whole, as will hereinafter be more fully set forth.
In thcdrawings, A is the caster-wheel working in uyoke iu the usuel manner, and B is the tapering spindle of the same, which is contained for the most part inahol-lcw extension, D, arising centrally from the top of the case E, which contain theV frictionfrollers e, the spindles of which latter are the cylindrical parts of the screws a. These screws 'pass through the'bottorn disk b, the said disk serving to completely close the case E Containing the friction-rollers. A central hole in the disk serves as n. lower bea-ring for the spindle B, as shown. A ange or collar, dfturned or otherwiseformell on the spindle, is so located that it will`be a-bove the friction-rollers, and thereby serve as a. stop to prevent the castcrwheel from falling out when the arti-cle of furniture it supports is lifted from the floor, but otherwise serves as a flange to keep the spindle B centrally in the extension D, as shown in fig. 1. The friction-rollers, when properly fitted, will be in contact with the wspindlc, and effectively serve the end for whichthey'ere desired.
In practice the caso and wheels are of cast inet-al. It is simple, cheap, and durable, and 4perfectly serves the purpose set forth.
I claim as new, .and desire to secure by Letters Pntent- K The construction and arrangement in the case E of the friction-rollers c c upon the vertical screws a, and adapted to beur and revolve against the shank of the spindle B, below the colla-r d and above the bottom plate b, without contact with the top or bottom of the caseE, as herein described for the purpose specified. l
