SPECIFICATION forming-part of Letters Patent No. 754,476, dated March 15, 1904.
Application filed December 3, 1903.
Be it known that I, GEORGE MERKEL, a citifield, in the county of Washington .and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to pneumatic devices for transferring grain from one place to another; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, as will be fully set forth hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the said drawings, Figure 1 is a view, partly in elevation and partly in section, on' the plane indicated bythe line'l I in Fig. 3, of a structure embodying my present invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are transverse sectional cated by the lines 2 2 and 3 3 in Fig-l.
Referring by numerals to the said drawings, 1 designates a standard or frame serving as a support for a circular casing 2, formed with a central opening 3 in'its base, through the center of which opening there extends theY vertical shaft 4 of a fan, the blades 5 5 5 of which are secured to the lower side of a solid circular disk 6, which latter has an under side hub 7 for the reception of the top of the shaft 4, fastened thereto by pin 8. The casing 2 has an outlet communicating with a pipe or pasgrain is to be transferred, and an inlet, to be presently described.'
On the upperfaceof the fan-disk 6 are secured a series of'curved strips 10 10 10, which, like the fan-blades 5 below, are arranged raf dially about the center, there being a central adjustable endA 11 of the feed-pipe 12, vand each strip 10 extends from the annular line of this space to an annular line a short distance within the peripheryof the disk 6.
The feed-pipe 12 is supported above the fan by the upper part of the casing 2, which has a flanged opening of just suliicient size t0 adseriaINo. 183,569. (Nomades i the upper face of the solid revolving fan-disk 6 and there made fast. In the present illustration this is accomplished by the following means: 15 is a band vertically movable on the pipe 12 and provided with a set-screw 16 to stop same by impingement on the pipe. This band 15 carries links 17 17, whose lower ends engage with pins 18 18 on the pipe end 11. The shaft4 has a pulley 19 fast thereon, revolved by a belt 20 from any suitable source of power.
The operation of my device will be readily understood from the foregoing description/of its construction, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. Grain is fed into the hopper 14 and falls through the feedpipe 12 11 onto the center of the solid plate or disk 6, this feed being regulated by the adjustable pipe end 11, which can be lowered so as to partly or entirely cut oif said supply edge of the said disk, the curved strips 10 10 serving to distribute the grain evenly and prevent an accumulation at any one point, and the current of air from the blades 5 5 on the under side of the disk 6 will serve to draw the grain on the disk through the outlet and into the pipe or passage-way 9 and below it to the desired point to which it is to be transferred, thus making a very simple, practical., and efficient grain-blower.
I have shown the standard or frame 1 bolted to the casing 2; but it will be lunderstood that said casing may be revoluble on the standard, so that the outlet and communicating pipe or passage-way 9 may point in any direction. It will also be understood that my device is intended to be used in connection with a threshing-machine, with the hopper placed directly under the weigher, so that the grain therefrom will be carried directly to a bin or other point desired.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a grain-blower, the combination with a suitable standard or frame, and a circular casing supported thereon, said casing being provided with central openings at the top and bottom, and a side outlet in communication with a pipe or passage-way, of a revoluble vertical shaft, extending up within said casing; a solid circular disk secured to the upper end of said shaft; a series of radially-disposed fanblades secured to the under side of said disk; a series of radially-disposed strips secured to the upper side of said disk; and a feed-pipe extending down through the upper opening of the said casing toward the said circular disk.
2. In a grain-blower, the combination with a suitable standard or frame, and a circular casing supported thereon, and provided with an upper and a lower central opening, and an outlet-opening inits side wall of substantially the height of said casing, of a pipe or passage-way in communication with said outlet-opening; a revoluble vertical shaft, extending up through said lower opening and terminating on a line intermediate of the top and bottom of said outlet-opening; a solid circular disk secured to the upper end of said shaft, and of a diameter to just revolve within said casing; fan-blades on the lower side of said disk, and curved guiding and distributing strips on the upper side of the disk; a feed-pipe extending down through the upper opening of the casing; a verticallymovable pipe end fitting lower end of said feed-pipe; and means for varying the projection 0f the pipe end beyond the lower end of the feed-pipe, and for holding the said pipe end in any position to which it may be adjusted.
