To all whom it. moi; concern: V
- Beitknown that I, Ezns DIXON, a citizen of the United States, residing at. Bristol, in the countyof Bristol and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new'end useful Improvement in Top-Roll Saddles, of which the following is a specification.
*This invention has reference toenimprovenient in toproll saddles, and more particularly ,to an improvement in the mechanism for edgammy connecting the weight-strap tothe e. a r
In top-roll saddles it is essential 'sdjustably connect the weight-strepto the his. top.-
on the top rolls may be'edjusted and the pres sure of the ssddleon the top rollschsnged .wheni'equired.
The object of my inventionis to adjustahly connect the weight-str p with the front toprollsaddlethrough a slot in the saddle. lily-invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction ofth'e frontjtopei'oll saddle and the upper end of the .weightstrap; said =5 saddle hevinga slot for the weight-strap sud a slide edjnsteblysecured to the saddle by a. set-screw extending-through asl'ot in the slide coinciding with'the'slot in the saddle, with means ontheslide for holding the T-shaped 3 upper-end of the weight-strap, as willbe more fully set forth hereinafter.
. 1 is aside view of the front and rear top-roll saddles, showing the saddles bearing onthe journals of the top rolls and the front 3 5 saddle prodded with an adjustable slide to .'which the upper end of the weight-strap is connected through slots in the saddle and slide. Fig.2 is an enlarged plan view of the front top-roll seddle, showing the slot inthe 4; adjustable slide coinciding with the slot in the saddle for the upper end ofthe weight-strap. Fig. '3 is a sectional view taken lengthwise through the front top-roll saddlef g and Fig. 4: is a transverse sectional View tliroughthe front top-roll saddle, showing the upper end 7 of the weight-strap extending through the slots in the saddle and slide and supported by its T-sheped end on the slide. In the drawings, a a indicate the journals roll saddie, whereby the position of the saddle 5 of the top rolls; 6, the back saddle; c, the front saddle, and d the Weight-strap. The back saddle 6 is constructed in the usual way to form bearings for \the back and intermediate top-roll journals and to support the rear end of the front saddle. The forward end of the front saddle '0 has the-usual bearing forthe journdl of the front top roll, and extending downwardly through the front saddle isthe elongated slot 0' for'the-.weiglit-strap d. The slide 0 is a'djustably secured on the top of the front saiddle c by the set-screw .0 passing. through the elongated slot 0 in the slide.
The T-shsped end (2' of the weight-strap d is supported in the groove 0 formed by upwardlyturned lips on the forward end of the slide 0 Y The upper end 'of the weight-strap (Z is" passed upward through thesiot c in the saddie and the slot 0 in the slide and given a quarter-turn to bring the T-shaped end 03' over and into the groove 0 in the slide a. The slide may now be adjusted to bring the weight-strap into the position required and se'cured by tightening the set-screw c weight-strap extending through the slot in the slide and the slot in the saddle.
Having thus described my inventionfl claim 'thejsaddle having an elongated slot coinciding with the slot in the saddle, means for adjustably securing. the slide to the saddle, a weightstrap having a T-shaped upper end, and means on the slide for holding the T-shapcd upper end of the weight-strap, as described."
In its operative position the weight-strap is locked to the front saddle and is removed from the 3. In top-roll saddles,- the combinationwith strap to the front top-roll saddle and prevent the back saddle b,'the front saddle 0 having lateral movement of the slide, as descri the slot 0, the slide ctadjustably secured to Intestiinonywhereoflhawe signedmyname' the saddle c by the set-screw 0 through the to this specification in the presence of two Subl. slot 0 in the slide, and the weight-.strap d ha ve scribing witnesses.
