This invention relates to new and useful improvements in stovepipe-fasteners adapted for clamping and holding securely the meeting ends of pipe sections, making. an eflicient means for holding the pipe-sections together and one which may be easily applied to andV removed from the pipe-sections,

More specifically, my invention comprises a band having beads along its longitudinal edges adapted to receive wires, the ends of which are adapted to interlock and securely hold the band against the telescoping ends of pipe-sections.

The invention consists, further, in various details of constructiony and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifcallyidefined in the appended claims.

My improved fastening device comprises a band C, made of sheet metal, and Aeach longitudinal edge of the band is turned into a roll C', which is hollow and adapted toreceive the. wire D, which at its middle portion is bent to form a bail D outside one end-of the band, a space intervening between said bailshaped portion and the adjacent edge of the band,` as shown clearly in Fig. l of the drawings. The ends of said wire project from the opposite end of the band`and are turned to form eyes E', which engage and securely hold a wire E. The portions of the wire adjacent to the eyes E' are bent at an angle, as at F,

which angle portion is adapted to bear against the outer circumference of the pipe when the two ends' of the fastener are brought together and' interlocked, asshown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Asthe -wire is flexible, it will be observed that the ends thereof having eyes will yield when being forced toward the pipes surrounded by the fastening means, and when said eyes are caught underneath the bailshaped end of the wire they will be held frictionally under tension of the wires against the bail and in the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.v

In fastening the ends of the band together the tool is placed against the cross-wire E, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, and the edges of the tool are fulcrumed against the bail D, and by pushing'the tool to the right the bail is drawn over thewire E, and engaging behnd theeyes at the ends ofthe wire the band willbe securely held frictionally against the outer faces of the stovepipe-sections.

In removing the fastener the tool is' applied as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, in which the recessed end is placed against the bail and the opposite edge is caused to bear against the rod or wire E and force the same away from the eyes as the lever is thrown in the opposite direction or the left, as will be readily understood.' l

features of my invention it will be observed that a fastening means for connecting pipes is afforded which not only will securely hold the sections together, but make an ornamental band having the appearance of the ordinary pipe with parallel plaited portions.

While I have shown a particular shape and j end of the band, the ends of the wire projecting from the -opposite end of the band and bent to form bail-engaging portions, as setforth.

A stovepipe-fastener comprising a band having rolls formed in itslongitudinal edges, a wire passing through said rolls and bent to Y form a bail projecting beyond one end of the band, the ends of said Wire projecting over the other end of the band and turned to form eyes, a rod fixed in said eyes, the portions of the wire intermediate said eyes and the end of the band beyond which the ends project being bent at angles adapted to bear against the outer circumference of a pipe-section' to hold the ends locked together, as set forth.
