SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,457, dated February 16, 1904.

4made for securing the opposite ends thereof to the place of service, so that rising, slip-I ping, or shifting of the hook, especially at the bill end, is prevented, the other end being adapted lto be secured as usual.

It also consists in providing the bill end of the hookwith an attaching device, so located 'as to prevent the eye member which engages the hook from contacting with and cutting the stitches on said device.

It also consists of details of construction, as will be hereinafter described.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a hook for a garment or other purpose, the same being formed of the shank or back member B, the bill C, the fastening-eyes D D E, and the hump or shoulder F, it being noticed that the eyes D D are at one end of the back member B, and the loop or eye E atthe other end or front thereof, by which provision the hook may be stitched or sewed in position at both of its ends, whereby it is prevented from rising at the bill end and from shifting, slipping, and overturning, it being also noticed that said eye E projects outwardly from the outer bends G of the bill, so as to be somewhat removed therefrom, whereby when an eyemember is applied to the hook 'A and seated against the inner face of said bends (see dotted lines, Fig. 2) it cannot contact with and cut the stitches on said eye, the security of fastening of the hook at the eye E thus being assured. Furthermore, the eye E is located between the side members of the bill and obviates the employment of laterallyprojectingeyes or loops on opposite sides of the back member. Y

In manufacturing the hook of wire I first may form one of the eyes D and continuing from one side of the back member B the bill C, the loop or eye E, the other side of the back member, the other eye D, and the hump or shoulder F, the latter terminating in a short loop H, which freely embraces the inner end ofthe loop or eye E, thus preventing said loop from presenting a rougher cut edge to the garment or article to which the hook is secured, it being noticed that said eye E extends rearward of the front bends of the bill into the shank of the hook, so that said loop H may interlock with Said eye E at the inner end thereof, as above stated. It will also benoticed that a portion of the loop or eye E is interlocked with the contiguous portion of the back member or shank, as at J, thus stiifening the connection of said eye, with 'said member close to the adjacent bend of the bill, thus preventing spreading of said parts and accordingly strengthening the hook at the relative places, while said loop is prevented from upward or downward displacement.

It is evident that various changes may be made in the details of construction shown without departing from the general spirit of my invention, and I do not, therefore, desire to be limited to the exact construction herein shown and described.

Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new,andgdesire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a hook of the character stated, a bill, a back member or shank, attaching-eyes on the ends of the latter, and a front eye projecting longitudinally beyond the outer bends of said bill, the several attaching-eyes being substantially in the same plane, said front eye being continuous of one of said outer bends -of the bill and one member of said shank.

2. In a hook of the character stated, a bill, a back member or shank, attaching-eyes on the ends of the latter, and an attaching-eye at said bill projecting longitudinally beyond the outer bends thereof, the several attachingeyes being substantially in` the same plane,
