MOVEMENT-CURE APPARATUS.

.in Movement-Cure Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an apparatus for the treat: ment of diseases; and it consists in the features and combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

The apparatus comprises a vibrating instrument 1, carried by a vibrating arm 4, ful-- crumed at 5 to an arm 6, projecting from 'a head 7, the said head containing an eccentricpin 8 on a shaft 9, driven by a motor contained within a motor casing or head 10, the said m0- tor being preferably electrically driven and the conducting-wires of which are shown at 11. The pin 8, which is eccentrically arranged on the end of the shaft 9, engages aslot or opening in the upper end of the arm 4 and vibrates the same about the fulcrum 5. The arm is sustained in this vibrating action by a steel plate or link 12, having a pin 13 at its upper end engaging a hole in the front wall 14 of the vibrator-head, the said steel plate having at inthe vibrating arm .4 to sustain the same.
The arms 4 and 6 are both slotted longitudinally, and the fulcrum 5 is adapted to headjusted longitudinally of the said arms to vary the throw of the vibrating instrument carried by the vibrator-arm 4.- For this purpose the fulcrum comprises besides the collar for the fulcrum proper (marked 5) a flange 15, fitting against the face of the arm 6 and having a collar or projection 16 extending into the slot of the said arm 6, the bolt 2 extending through the fulcrum '5, havingfa head 17 on its end engaging the back face of the arm '6, the said 59'- head having a portion 18 extending into theslot of the arm 6. The bolt on its opposite end isthreaded and receives a knurled nut 19, adapted to bear-on the end of the fulcrum 5,
which projects slig tly beyond the face of the 5 5 vibrating arm 4. y turning this nut the flange 17 and head 18 will be clamped firmly to the arm 6 at any desired point along the slot-in the said arm, and the fulcrum 5 will thus be held at any desired point to' get the 66 throw of the vibrating instrument, as may be desired, and. in all adjustments of the fulcrum the arm' i will be free to turn about the ful-' crum 5, because the nut 19 exercises no binding effect on the said vibrating arm, but only 5 on the end of the fulcrum 5;
At 20 I show a knurled nut mounted on a bolt connected with the motor-casing 10 and passing through the forked support 21, the end of which is provided with a shank 22, ex- 7 tending. into a coupling-piece 23, pivoted at 24 to swing horizontally at the end of a flexible arm 25, made up of two members 26' 27, pivoted together at 28, so that the said arm may have flexibility in a horizontal plane, the 75 member 27 being suitably supported bya ment, and the head when adjusted into the de- 8 5 siredposition may be locked in said position or either ofthe joints which allow the universal movement can be locked by'the nut 20 or the set-screw 32 independent of the other joint. For instance, if the set-screw 32 is 9 loosened the fork 21, together with the vibrator-head and the vibrating instrument, can be rotated around a horizontal axis until the depending arms 4 and 6 are brought to an angle of, say, thirty degrees, and then by tightening 9 5 I the set-screw 32 the instrument will be in position to impart'a pounding motion to a surface located beneath it. On the other hand, if the locking-nut is, loosened While the set-screw 32 is tightened the operator will be enabled to bring the vibrator-arm 4 into a position par allel with the swinging or flexible arm of the apparatus, and this will ,be necessary in treating cases where the neck of the patient erated on. 1
It will be seen that the'motor in my present apparatus is carried at the outer end of the flexible or swinging arm and direct electrical orthe sides of his body must be directly 'opconnection is made thereto and that said motor is directly vconnected by rigid shafting with'the vibrator-arm and said rigid shafting follows the-adjustment of the said vibratorarm. In other words, the said vibrator-head,- the motor, the motor-head, and the inflexible shaft between the motor and the vibrator-arm all are movable as one body and are adjustable about the pivot controlled by the lock-nut 20.
The vibrating instrument is attached to the vibrating arm by having the former provided with a screw-threaded extension 35, adapted to receive the instrument thereon, one of which is shown in the form of a ball or sphere.
It will be seen from the'abo'v'e that the shank of the fork forms, substantially, a swiveled or pivotal connection for the said fork, thus allowing the vibrator-head to be turned in a direction at right angles to that allowed by the pivots controlled bythe lock-nut 20, and it will be seen, further,"that this universal support for the vibrator-head is carried at the end of the flexible arm composed of the members 26 and 27. i
The connection between the horizontallydisposed support or fork 21 and the flexible arm is a pivoted one in the nature of a swivel,
allowing the said support or fork to be turned about its longitudinal axis.
It will be seen from Fig. 1 that the motorhead and vibrator-head are arranged to turn as one body about the horizontal pivots at the outer, end of the-fork 21, and it will be seen that these-pivots are located back from or to f one side of the vibrator-head and its vibrating arm. In other words, the vibrating arm is located at a point out beyond the vertical plane of the pivots, about which the vibratorhead may turn. I
I claim as my invention 1. In combination with a vibrator-head, a
. vibrator-arm, means for vibrating the arm, a
link connected with the head and a pin connecting the link with the said vibrator-arm,
substantially as described.
2. In combination with a vibrator-arm,
- means for vibrating the same, a vibratorhead, a link, a pin connection between-the said plate and head, and a pin connection between the link and vibrator-arm, substantiallyas described.
3. In combination, a vibrator-head, a vibrating instrument. carried thereby, horizontallydisposed pivots about which the said tally-disposed pivots at right angles to each head may be. turned, said pivots being arranged at right angles'to each other, substantially as described. .4
4. In combination with a flexible arm, a vibrator-head and a universal-joint connection between the said vibrator-head and the end of the flexible ;arm, substantially as described.
5. Incombination, a vibrator-head, a vibrator-arm depending therefrom, a horizontally-disposed pivot about which the head may turn and supporting means, substantially as described.
. 6. In combination, a vibrator-head, a vibrator-arm depending therefrom, horizonother by which the vibrator -head may be turned to set the depending arm in different positions and supporting means, substantially as described.

motor-head, a pivotal support for the motora horizontally+extending arm, a vibratorhead, a connection between the said head and horizontally-extending arm including a pivot located at a point to one side of the depending vibrator -arm carried by the vibratorhead, substantially as described.

In combination, a vibrator-hea'd,a vibrating instrument carried thereby, a motorhead, a pivotal support for said. motor-head, the said vibrator-head being connected with the motor-head at a point out beyond the pivotal point, and means for driving the vibrator-arm from the motor, substantially as described.
11. In combination avibrator-head carryingavibrating instrument, a motor connected with the vibrating instrument, a motor-head connected with the vibrator-head, a pivotal support for the said motor-head and a swiveled connection for the said pivotal support, substantially as described.
12. In combination, a support extendin horizontally and having aswiveled connection allowing it to be turned about its longitudinal axis, a vibrator-head pivotally supported. at the end of the said swiveled support, avibrating instrument carried by the said head and mean'sfor driving said instrument, substantially as described.
13. In combination, a hor1zontally-extend- 7 ing support having a swiveled connection allowing it to be turned about its longitudinal. axis, a motor-head pivotally supported in 'theend of the said swiveled support, a vibrator- 5 head connected with the motor-head, avibrating-instrument on the said vibrator-head and means for driving the'same fromthe motor, substantially as described.

In combination with a horizontally-disposed support, a'pivoted or swiveled connection for the said support by which it may be turned around its longitudinal axis, a vibratorhead, a pivotal connection between the same and the said swiveled support by which the head may be turned in a direction at right angles to that'permitted by the swiveling action of the said support and locking means for the pivotal and swiveling action, substantially as described.
20. In combination, a vibrator-arm, a head, a link connection between the arm and head, an instrument on the said arm and means for vibrating the arm, substantially as described.
