Description

No. 750,203. I PATBNTED JAN. 19, 1904.
L. KNIGHT. DENTAL ARTIGULATOR. nruornon FILED nov. 4, 1002.
I I0 roman.
WITNESSES: I IN YENTOI? -W A 77'0F/WE YS.
UNITED STATES Patented January 19, 1904.
LEWIS KNIGHT, OF BELOIT, KANSAS.
DENTAL ARTICULATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 7 50,203, dated January 19, 1904.
Application filed November 4, 1902. Serial No, 130,105. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS KNIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beloit, in the county of Mitchell and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Dental Articulator, of which the following'is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in dental articulators.
The object of my invention is to construct joints in the arms supporting the model-hold ers or jaws for permitting the adjustment of the same.
Another object is the formation of duplicate means for retaining the jaws or modelholders in an assembled position relative to the other parts of the device.
A further object is to provide means for changing the relative position of the jaws or model-holders on the bite without breaking or removing the plaster cast from the plates of the articulator.
The invention consists in standards and modelholders or jaws, said members provided with duplicate clamps for retaining them in an assembled position.
The invention further consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as is hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, and Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View of one of r the clamps.
In the drawings reference-numeral 1 indicates standards.
2 is a cross-bar having a ball 3 secured to the bar 2 by an extension 4., formed integral therewith.
A pivoted triangular member is secured to the standards 1 by means of a pin or bar 6,
which is adapted to pass through said standards and the bifurcated extensions 7 of the triangular member 5. Secured to the memher 5 is a ball 3, provided with .an extension 4, formed integral with said member 5.
The model-holders or jaws 8 are provided with extensions 4, to which are secured balls 3.
In assembling the parts of the device I pro- 1 vide duplicate clamps 9, comprising parallel plates 10, upon which'are formed ball-sockets or concaved cut-out portions 11, as is shown in dotted lines. When the balls 3 are placed within the sockets 11 of the plates 9, a setscrew 12 or the like is employed to retain said balls 3 in position. It will be seen that owing to the construction of the clamps the balls carrying the different members may be clamped in a rigid position or loosened to permit of an adjustment of the same.
A cross-bar 12, carrying an adjusting setscrew 13, is secured to the standards 1.
The actuation of the set-screw 13 controls the pivotal movement of the triangular member 5, the model-holders 8, and clamps 9,which are carried thereby.
Although I have shown the preferred form of my invention in the accompanying drawings, I reserve the right to make such changes in the construction of the device which shall fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1.. A dental articulator comprising standards having a pair of ball members secured thereto, a pair of model-holders formed inte gral with ball members, and duplicate clamps for assembling the aforesaid members in a predetermined position.
2. A dental articulator comprising standards and model-holders secured thereto by duplicate clamps interposed between said standards and model-holders, said clamps comprising parallel-arranged plates and means for retaining said plates in a locked position.
3. A device of the character described comprising standards, a rigid and a pivoted ball member secured thereto, model-holders provided with ball members assembled with said standard and its ball members by means of clamps.
4. A device of the class described comprised to secure all of the ball members in an asing standards, rigid and pivoted ball members sembled position. secured thereto, model-holders formed integral with ball members, duplicate clamps com- 5 prising parallel plates provided with ball- Vitnesses:
sockets near each end and centrally-mounted PALMER B. FELT, assembling means therefor, said clamps adapt- EARL PORTER.
