PATENT OF ICE.
CHARLES H. MUCKENHIRN, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN S. TYLER. OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
VENTILATOR FOR WATER-CLOSETS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 749,87 5, dated January 19, 1904.
Application filef. July 24:, 1902. Serial No. 116,770. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. MUCKEN- IIIRN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of ayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Ventilators for W ater-Closets,.(Detached Fixture;) and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to ventilators for water-closets; and it has for its object an improved ventilator adapted to be used as a removable fixture or used in connection with closet-bowls that were not originally intended for or provided with ventilating-pipes.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side eleva t1on of the bowl and a horizontal vertical seca sage 4 leads from the mouth to an enlarged section 5 of the casing, in which there is concentrically located an eduction thimble 6. The eduction-thimble 6 is a tube having expanded ends and a constricted middle part 6". The periphery of the ends are notched to provide air-passages 7.
Into the casing 2 leads a water-pipe 8, provided with a valve 9, that seats on a diaphragm 10 and seats with the flowing water. The valve is provided with a projecting stem 11, arranged to be engaged by a hanger 12, that is secured to the seat 13 on the bowl and arranged to bear against the stem 11 and open the valve 9 when the seat is pressed forcibly downward on the bowl. The end 14 of the casing is provided with an upturned curve or a curve arranged to be upturned and to lead into an exit-pipe 15. A water-outlet pipe 16 is arranged to convey the spray of water into the waste-pipe 17.
What I claim is- An attachment to be used with closet-bowls, comprisinga casing provided with a flat open mouth adapted to be inserted between the edge of the bowl and the seat thereof, and to extend into the bowl under the seat, a tubular extension therefrom, an eduction-thimble concentrically located into tubular extension, the said eduction-thimble having expanded ends and a constricted middle part, and having the periphery of the ends notched to provide air-passages additional to that through the constricted middle part, a water-jet nozzle arranged to deliver a jet of water through the constricted middle part of the thimble, and means for conveying away the spray-water, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES H. MUCKENHIRN.
Vitnesses:
MABEL E. ANDREW, WILLIAM T. INNns.
