TO ALL WHOM I'i MAY CONGERN Beit known that A. P. WISLOW, oi" Cleveland, irrthe'countyV of Cuyahoga, and State'ofjOhio, have invented certain new andguseful Improvements in Railroad-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a complete description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawingsmakiug part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of ther stove Y'Figure 2 is an end view.

My invention is designed to act as a preventive of those frightful casualties which sometimes occurffrom the communication of fire to theinilamruablef material of the car, when colliding, or thrown from the track upon its side,veupsi'zed, or placed in any position by which thore is thrwn from the stove, there often being no way of egress for the passengers, and thus many lives yare lost before 'help can he had.
A, fig. 1, represents the stove, which may be of any desirable form or configuration suitable for the object desired. Underneath 'it is "the hollow platform'or waterpchainher, B. These'pipes are perforated, for-a purpose hereafter shown. A short distance from the top ofthe stove is'theperforated diaphragm E. 'Connected to this diaphragm, and also to the top of the stove, are the guards a, which are for the purpose of preventing the fire from passing though the pipe ol in cose of accident, und also allows u free draught from the re. F is a perforated shell, surrounding the Istove, for the purpose of protecting the garments of passengers from the hot surface while passing. Thedetted lines G represent lu. water-jacket for protecting`the sides of the car from 'injury bythe heat of the stove, and is also an auxiliary water-chamber. The platform B is filled with water through the opening c, which is then closed by any desirable means. In case the car should he thrown from the track in any position, the water from this platforml will be thrown into the pipes C D, and thence through th holes immediately-uponthe fire, thus extinguishing it andprevcnting anydanger from the sume. Also, in case of a collision,.when the two cars meet and the 'stove is crushed, the platform is composed of such material as to be broken, and thus the water will be thrown upon the fire. The water-jacket G also, when crushed, aids in extinguishing the fire. Should the car be in any dangerous position, out of its ordinary course, raised to one side or the other, t'newater from the pipes D will be ejected on the fire in the stove, thereby extinguishing it; and should it cause cinders and ashes to rise, as the door of' the store may bc secured by a key in the ordinary way, they could findno egress there; hence they are cught by the guards a, which retain all the ashes aniliire. hns, as the ashes and cinders escapey through the opening la, they are cuught'on the first guard, which acts as a shelf to retain it, and what esca-pes from the first vis caught by thc second, land s o on, as it should be thrown from one guard to the other, no fire or cinders can escape through the pipe d, so as to cause danger by ignition. The water from the outside pipes is thrown on the floor and surrounding objects, thus suturating them and rendering ignition -diiicult' I do not confine` myself to any particular arrangement of the pipes, but they may be place'd across the stove, or in any position which may he desired.
What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by L etters Patent, is-
