" I ATTORNEYS" w: NORRIS Pnzns 00.. wow-urban. waswncvox o r.
UNITED I STATES Patented January 5, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE. I
ANTON C. EGGERS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO GOODYEARS INDIA RUBBER GLOVE MANUFACTURING CO., OF NAUGATUCK, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
HOLDER FOR THE STOPPERS OF WATER-BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 748,937, dated. January 5, 1904.
Application filed May 16, 1903. Serial No. 157,423. (No model.)
to holder for the stoppers of water-bottles,which has the advantage that it can be made up as a separate article and applied for use to the water-bottles and stoppers for the same, so as to prevent loss or misplacing of said stop- I pers; and for this purpose the invention consists of a holder for the stoppers of waterbottles, which comprises a rubber cord provided with a rubber loop at one end adapted to be applied to the neck of the water-bot-' 2o tle, and a smaller loop at the opposite end provided with a reinforcing metallic gromet adapted to be readily attached to the heads or handles of the stoppers of water-bottles, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a water-bottle with my improved holder in position thereon. Fig. 2 is a section through the inlet-fun nel of the water-bottie,showing myim proved holder for the stopper in position thereon and drawn on a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the holder shown as detached from .the wator-bottle and stopper. Fig. 4 is a perspec- 5 tive view of the split metallic gromet; and Fig. 5 is a detail section, drawn on a larger scale, on line 5 5, Fig.3, through the reinforcing-gromet, showing the edges of the gromet drawn over the rubber loop for preventing the detaching of the gromet-sections.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a water-bottle, N the neck, and B the stopper of the same. .0 is the improved holder by which the stopper B is connected with the neck N of the water-bottle A, so as to prevent the loss or displacing of the stopper.
The holder C is made of soft rubber formed in the nature of a round cord (1, the ends of which are vulcanized by means of a covering layer of rubber r on the main portion of the cord 61, so as to form ring shaped loops e andf, as shown in Fig. 3. The loop e is made somewhat larger than the loop f, so as to be placed around the neck of the water-bottle, while the smaller loop f is rein forced by a split metallic gromet G, the outer edges of which are turned or bent over by means of suitable dies, so that the split sections of the gromet are retained on the cord forming the loopf without becoming detached therefrom. The split gromet G permits the expansion of the ring-shaped loop f, so as to be readily placed over the head or handle'of the stopper, and forms a reliable connection of the stopper-head with the bottle that permits the ready screwing in and nnscrewin g of the stopper, as the stopper does not entrain the holder during the turning motion of the same.
My improved holder for stoppers of waterbottles can be made up in quantities and sold independently of the water-bottles and applied theretoby the purchaser, or they may be furnished with thewater-bottles, as desired. It can also be used in such cases where the loss or displacement of a detachable stopper or other portion is to be prevented.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combinatiomwith a holder for the stoppers of water-bottles, consisting of an elastic cord provided with an elastic loop at one end for attachment to the neck of the water-bottle and a smaller elastic loop at the other end, of a split metallic gromet for reinforcing the smaller loop, said smaller loop and split gromet being attached to the neck of the stopper, substantially asset forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my namein presence of two subscribing witnesses.
