TO ALL WHOM IT MAY oononnn: y
Be it known that I, I. M. WILSON, of S eguin, in the county of Guadaloupe, and State of Texas, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Cosmetics; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same.
This invention or discovery relates to a new and useful improvement in the composition of a cosmetic for removing freckles or tan-discoloration from the skin, and For improving; the complexion.
This im rovement consists in comhinin certain chemical iu 'rcdients, and mekin a. solution thereof, with o a c which the skin shall be wet, for the purpose ui'ol'csaid, without injury to the tissue.
The formula for the preparation of my improved cosmetic is as follows, viz: Soda, one pound; potash, one pound; chloride of lime, two pounds; liquid ammonia, quarter of a pound; distilled water, two gallons. Dissolve the chloride of lime in one gallon of the distilled water when cool, and the soda and potash together in one gullon of the water when hot. The mixtures should be frequently agitatcdfor several days. After the complete solution of the ingredients theyure allowed to settle, and the water is then decanted and filtered. Then add the ammonia, and mix the whole together thoroughly. For keeping the solution thus prepared, it should be put up in dark or opaque bottles, to exclude the light, and well corked or sealed. The proportions of the several ingredients may be so newhat varied, and the chlorine may he introduced in the state of a gas instead of adding chloride of lime. i i
The cosmetic thus prepared is applied to the skin of the face, neck,'hands, or any part of the body, with a. sponge, or in any convenient manner, to wet it, and several applications may be required in some cases to removeobstinate blotches and discoloratioi'is of the skin, allowing the solution to dry on the skin. For a decided and prompt eflect it may be used pure, but ordinarily, the mixture should be diluted with pure soft water, When the most delicate skin will not be injured, and all freckles and discolorntions of the skin will be removed, After the application of the cosmetic, and it has become dry on the face, a weak acidulous wash should be applied over the surface.
Hz ving thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to sccnrehy Letters Pctcnt.
The composition of a. cosmetic, suhstantiallyns herein described.
The above specification of my invention signed by 1110, this 20th day of November, 1867.
