UNITED STATES Patented December 29, 1903.
PATENT OFFIC LOUISE LARRIMORE, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 748,081, dated December 1903- Application filed June 8, 1908. Serial No. 160,644. (No model.) 7
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUISE LARRIMORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have inventeda new and useful Bib and Head-Rest for Sham pooing, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to meansto support the head and protect the body from the liquid used in shampooing and to cause the liquid as it runs from the head to be deflected from the body of the person being shampooed; and the object is to provide means whereby a person may be shampooed without removing any of her garments and not have her clothes soiled by the material used in shampooing and to form a head-rest while being shampooed. I accomplish this object by means of the device described herein and shown in the accompanying drawings, in'
which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my shampooing bib and head-rest in place with the head of the person being shampooed. Fig. 2 is a bottom elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a perspective top view. Fig. 4is a perspective view of the bib-securing slides.
In the drawings, A represents the bib, and
' B represents the washbasin, and O the washstand. The bib A is placed in the washbasin and is held in place therein by means of thebib-securingslidesD,transverselymounted in the lower ends of the bib and the projecting ends of which are adapted to be pushed out under the marble slab on the washbasin and become engaged thereunder and hold the bib-rest in place therein, as shown in Fig. 1. On the outer ends of the bib-securing slides are lugs D, adapted to engage projections under the lid of'the washstand. The two members of the bib-securing slide are provided with screw-threaded holes E for the reception and engagement of the thumb-screw F, by means of which the two members are adjustably secured together. The bib being placedin the washbasin, as
shown in Fig. 1, and the slide members being spread apart, so that the projecting ends of the engaging slides will contact with the sides of the basin and be under the slab of the washstand, the person to be shampooed is seated with her back to the washstand, so that the projecting ends A of the bib-rest will project on either side of the neck, the head resting easily therein, the hair being permitted to fall down into and upon the bib,as shown in Fig.1. In this position the person being shampooed will rest easily, and all the shampooing materials will pass along down and through the hair and into the washbasin and thence into the sewer.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A bib for shampooing comprising a body portion, having in the lower part thereof perforations for the passage therethrough and reception therein of transverselymounted bib-securing slides, bib-securing slides in said perforations, the slides being detachably secured together to adapt them for securing the bib in washbowls of difierent sizes.
2. Means to protect the person from waste material while being shampooed, comprising a body portion, concave in general outline, the lower end being adapted to enter a washbasin, and the upper end being adapted to receive' the head of the person being shampooed, the said body portion having in the lower end thereof perforations for the reception of the projecting ends of the bib-securing slides, slides in said openings detachably secured together and adapted to project outwardly and engage the top of the bowl, substantially as shown and described.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 1st day of June, 1903.
LOUISE LARRIMORE.
