VALVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 745,099, dated November 24, 1903.
Application filed May 12, 1903. Serial No. 156,797. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ANDREW CLARENCE FAMBROUGH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sonora in the county of Sutton and State of Texas, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Valves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in valves, and especially in valves designed for use in tanks; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my improved devices as in use. Fig. 2 is a detail. section on about line 2 2 of Fig. 1, parts being broken away; and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of parts of the device.
The tank A may be of ordinary construction and has the outlet-pipe B extended slightly within the tank and threaded to receive the valve-guide O, which also furnishes at O the seat for the valve D. To this end the valveguide O is providedlin its under side with the socket at O to receive the threaded end of the pipe B and has the reduced opening forming the valve-seat O, as will be understood from Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings. The valve-guide O is in the form of a flattened or oval ring, providing the base-bar C having the Socket 0 and the seat 0, and the top bar O having an opening in line with the opening O to receive the bushing E, which is provided at its lower end with a head and is inserted from the under side through the opening in the top bar C and is threaded to receive the nut F, which secures the yoke G in place on the projecting upper end of the bushing E, as shown in Fig. 1. The valve D has its stem D extending up through the bushing and above the same and has swiveled on its upper end the coupling H, provided with the lugs H, to which are pivoted the inner ends of the lever-arms I, said levers being pivoted between their ends on the upwardly-projecting arms G of the yoke Gr and being connected at their outer ends with the float J by the wires or rods K, as will be understood from Figs. 1 and 2.
By the described construction it will be noticed the yoke II is swiveled, so it can freely turn upon theupper side of the valve-guide, and the coupling H is swiveled on the valvestem and concentrically with the pivot of the yoke, so the valve will not be displaced" or affected by any turning or swinging of the levers Elaterally within the tank. It will also be noticed that if the tank be full, as shown in Fig. 1, the valve will be closed by the action of the float through the connecting means described. It will also be noticed that when the float lowers to the desired extent the valve will be opened.
The construction is simple, easily applied to a tank, and the construction and arrangement of valves are such as will work in shallow water and permit a much greater flow,
because the valve can be adjusted to a wideopen position.
While it is preferred to employ the two opposite lever-arms I, as shown in the drawings, it will be understood that one of said arms may be omitted and the device operated by a single lever-arm when so desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The improvement of valves herein de scribed comprising the valve-guide in the form of a flat ring having the lower bar pro vided with the valve-seat communicating with the discharge, and the upper bar provided in line with said seat with an opening for the bushing, the bushing fitting in said opening and extended above the valve-guide, the yoke swiveled on the upwardly-projecting portion of the bushing and provided at its ends with the upwardly-projecting arms, the retaining-nut on. the bushing above the yoke, the valve having its stem extending through the bushing and above the same, the coupling swiveled on the upper end of the valve-stem, the levers connected at their inner ends with the coupling and pivoted between their ends to the upwardlyprojecting arms of the yoke, the float and connections between the float and the outer ends of the arms substantially as set forth.
2. The herein-described improvement in valves consisting of the fiat ring having upper and lower bars, the lower bar being provided with a valve-seat and the upper bar in ICO line with said seat With an opening for the bushing, the bushing fitting in said opening in the upper bar and projecting above said bar, the yoke swiveled on the upwardly-projecting portion of the bushing and having upwardly-projecting arms at its opposite ends, retaining means on the bushing above the yoke, the levers pivoted between their ends to the arms of the yoke, the valve, connections between said valve and the inner ends of the levers, and the float connected with the outer ends of the levers substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination substantially as herein described of the fiat ring having upper and lower bars and having its lower bar provided With a valve-seat and its upper bar With an opening for the bushing, said opening being in alinelnent with the valve-seat, the bushing fitting in said opening in the upper bar and threaded to receive the yoke retaining nut and having a central opening for the valve-stem, the yoke resting on the upper bar of the ring and swiveled on the bushing and provided at its ends with upwardly-projecting arms, the nut on the bushing above the yoke, thevalve having its stein projecting upwardly through and above the bushing and the levers pivoted on the upwardly-projecting arms of the yoke and connected at their in ner ends with the valve-stem and the float substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
