PLATE-SAHEARS.
SPECIEIcAfrIoN arming part of Letters Patent No. 743,855, dated vlvovenibaf 1o, 190e.
Application filed March l0, 1903. Serial No. 147,158. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concer-11,:
Beit known that I, FERDINAND FUCHS, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Breslau, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plate- Shears, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to improvements in power plate-shears, and relates more especially to a novel construction and arrangement of the actuating means for the cutting-disks; and the object of the invention is to provide power plate-shears in which the driving mechanism will not in any Wayinterfere with the work-piece, so that plate of any length and width may be readily cut.
With this object in view the invention consists of the construction, arrangement, and cooperation of the various parts to behereinafter described with reference to the accompanying sheets of drawings.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved plate-shears. Fig. 2 is an end View, and Fig. 8 asectional view on line AB of Eig. 1.
The cutting-disks a b are journaled in the machine-frame c and are actuated from the common main shaft h. For driving the lower cutting-disk b an auxiliary shaft o is used, journaled in the frame c', the'chain-Wheel w of which is connected with the chain-wheel o: on shaft e by means of chain s. The shaft o is situated below the guidewayf for the one plate-section and above the gnideway g for the other plate-section. The power is transmitted from the main shaft to the various working parts in any suitable manner-for wheels m o k t g to the upper cutting-disk l and by means of a link chain r running over a chain-wheel t', fast upon shaft n, to the shaft v. The power-transmitting means for the axle o areall arranged at one side of themachine-frame and those for the shaft e at the other side. As the one plate-section aft-er having come free of the cutting-disks travels on the guidewayfand the other is bent downwardly by the guidewayg helowthe cog-wheel yw,the driving mechanism on either side does not interfere with the plate being cut, which consequently may be of indefinite width.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In power plate-shears, the combination of a frame, guideways on opposite sides of said frame, cutting-disks journaled in the said frame, means for rotating the upper one of the said cutting-disks, means for rotating the lower one of the said cutting-disks, comprising a shaft journaled in the said frame above the one of the saidguideways and below the other, a chain-wheel fast on said shaft at one side of the said frame, a chain connecting the said chain-wheel with the lower one of the said cutting-disks, a chain-wheel fast on said shaft at the other side of` said frame, and means for transmitting the power from the main shaft to the said second chain-wheel, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention l have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FERDINAND FUCHS.
