Specification of Letters Patent No. 742, dated May 17, 1838.

T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, PERIGRINE VILLIAM- so-N, of the city of New York, in theState of New York, have invented an instrument for the cure of corns upon thefeet, which I denominate the Oorn-Eradicatorf and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof.

I take thin sheet metal, of any suitable kind, and of such size as shall adapt it tothe intended purpose, say from half an inch to an inch or more in diameter, and I raise or stamp it up so as to cause the middle of the plate to be concavo-convex, giving to it different degrees of elevation, so as to adapt it to the particular corn, or part of the foot, to which it is to be applied. I leave a rim, or narrow flanch around the elevated portion', that it may set easily upon the foo-t, or other part; and to this rim I attach ribbon or other appendages by which the said plate may be secured in its place. I usually interpose a piece of soft kid, or other leather between the plate and the skin, to,q prevent abrasion. In some cases the leather may constitute a continued bandage to pass around the foot or toe.

In the accompanying drawings A, Figures l, 2 and 3, represent the concavo-convex plate, B B the strings passing through holes in the rim, and by which it. may be secured, C, O, is a leatherband, usually kid skin, for the purpose designated.

In applying the instrument care must be taken that its conveXity is such that the top of the corn shall not be touched by it, but that the whole pressure shall be around its base, and in this case it will in a short period of time completely eradicate it, as the corn will rise by the pressure around it, the convexity should be such as to allow for this, or a new eradicator must be substituted for one which is found to'be too shallow.

Persons afflicted with corns will find immediate relief on the application of this instrument, the pressure of the shoe instead of irritating serving to aid in keeping the plate in its proper place, and in promoting the eradication.

What I claim as my invention is- The forming of a. metallic plate so that it shall be conca-vo-convex, and applying the plate so formed to the eradication of corns in the manner herein set forth.
