Description
PATENTED OCT. 1a, 1903.
E. RI$SE- V NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
UNITED STnTns Patented October 13, 19(03,
EMILE RISSE, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
NON REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 741,372, dated October 13, 1903.
Application filed June 8. 1903. Serial No- 160,543. (No model) T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMILE RISSE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to means for prevent ing fraudulent refilling of bottles subsequent to the removal of the original contents, thereby affording protection against unscrupulous parties who might use the bottles to trade upon the name and reputation of the original user.
The invention consists in features of novelty herein fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure I is a vertical section of a bottle with my improvement shown therein. Fig. II is a perspective view of the guard of the improvement. Fig. III is aperspective view of the valve-receiving bushing. Fig. IV is a perspective view of the valve.
A designates the neck of the bottle, which may be of any common shape and which is provided with a shoulder 13, located interior thereof remote from its mouth.
1 designates a bushing that is seated in the bottle-neck A and has a lower tapering end 2, the interior of which provides a valve-seat 3. At the lower termination of the bushing 1 is an annular flange 4, that rests upon the bot tle-neck shoulder 13 to support the bushing.
5 designates a valve loosely positioned in the bushing 1 and having a lower tapered end 6, corresponding in contour to the contour of the tapering valve-seat 3, within which it fits when the bottle is in upright position to thereby prevent the passage of liquid through the bushing to the interior of the bottle beneath it. The upper end of the valve 5 is in the form of a circular head 7, which when the Valve is resting within its seat 3 is out of contact with the bushing 1 and extends vertically at an angle to the tapering seat. By this shape of the valve-head I provide for its utility in loosening the lower tapered end of the valve from its seat in the event of its becoming stuck in any degree in said scat, this result being due to the upwardly-extending circular head acting as a lever when the bottle is moved to or toward a horizontal posi-- tion, in which case the head of the valve will tend to move in a corresponding direction. and unseat its tapering lower end.
To the upper end of the bushing 1 I apply a guard that serves to prevent the escape of the valve 5 or its removal from the bushing. The top of this guard consists of a ring 8, that 'is secured to the bushing 1 by a layer 9, of
cement, thereby making said ring and bushing virtually integral. Depending from the ring 8 are a series of wings 10, that extend downwardly into the bushing 1. These wings are preferably arranged in the form of a cross, as seen in Fig-II, and while I have shown four of them they may be of any other desirable number.
All of the parts in my improvement are of glass and are therefore non-corrosive, and a bottle in which the improvement is employed may therefore be used as a receptacle for liquids of all kinds. By making the bushing 1 and the guard therein of glass and cementing such parts I furnish a safeguard against the removal of the valve 5 to refill the bottle without the parts mentioned being destroyed and the bottle thereby rendered unfit for future use in counterfeiting the original contents by reuse of the bottle. This is due to the fact that any attempt to remove the guard from the bushing 1 must necessarily result in the breakage of the guard or the breakage of both the guard and bushing, owing to their being firmly united together by the layer of cement that connects them.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a non-refillable bottle, the combina tion with a bottle neck, having an annular shoulder interior thereof, of a bushing positioned in said neck, and having an annular flange resting 011 said shoulder, a valve located in said bushing, and a guard cemented to the guard cemented to said bushing, said guard upper end of said bushing, substantially as consisting of a series of wings extending m set forth. downwardly into said bushing, and a ring 2. In a non-refillable bottle, the conibinauniting said wings, substantially as set forth.
5 tion with a bottleneck, and having an annular EMILE RISSE.
flange by which it is supported, of a glass In presence of bushing positioned in said neck, a valve E. S. KNIGHT, located in the lower end of said bushing, a NELLIE V. ALEXANDER.
