Beit known that I, H. F. PURMORT,-of Saginaw City, in the county of` Saginaw, and State of Michigan, have invented a new anduseful Improvement in Pumpdods; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable` others skilled in the art to make and use the vsame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of' this specification.
The present invention relates to pump and drillfpoles or rods, and consists in ya novel manner oi' jointing together the several sections oomposilg the sume, whereby rivets :ire dispensed with, consequently obviating not only nil injury to the intc'rior of` the pump, now resulting from the breaking und falling of rivets into the same, but also the 'ircquent drawing upoi' the pump-tube from the well to remove the rivets.
In the' accompanying plate of drawings niyvimpri'ove'ment is illustrated, the ligure being u section through the pump-rod, in the direction 'of its length; Y f v A A, in the drawings, represent the two sections'of 'a p,u'nIp-1od,jointed together according to the present invention. The two sections of the rod provided with the joint above described are then secured together by screwing the end ofthe one into the end ofthe other, they beinr suitablyv formed therefor, as is shown in the drawings.
In addition to the advantages hereinbef'ore explained as secured by myiinprovement, may be here I nen- `tioned that the joint is firm, secure, and reliable, and its cost but trilling, and` can be repaired with readiness and ease. 'In lieu vof providing thc shank with a cross-arm at its end, it may be at any intermediate `point between its two ends, and one or more of the sameused.
I claim es new, and desire to secu-re by Letters Patent- Joining the sections oi' a pump or other rod together by ineens of ,the joint, constructed and applied substantially as and for the purpose described.
