Description

PATENTED SEPT. 29, 1903.
A.. GRAEFE. ADJUSTABLE STAND FOR FLOWER POTS.
I APPLICATION FILED JUNE 11, 1903.
)IO MODEL.
Patented September 29, 1903. n
PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH GRAEFE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ADJUSTABLE. STAND FOR FLOWER-POTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters YPatent No. 740,120, dated September 29, 1903. Application led June 11, 1903.` Serial No. 160,972. (No model.)
2b a/ZZ whom it may concern: Beitknown that I, ADOLPH GRAEFE, a citiv zen of the United States, and a resident of It has formerly been the custom when Iiowers are to be arranged for exhibition to use various forms of supports in order to secure the right height for the pots. For such supports it is quite common to use empty flower-pots, which are placed together until they attain the proper elevation. My invention is designed to be adjustable, so that the flower-pot may be supported at any elevation desired.
The novel features of my invention will be disclosed in the accompanying description,
and particularly defined in the claim terminating the same.
The drawings accompanying herewith illustrate a preferred form of my invention.
In the drawings,Figure lis a front elevation of my device, the top thereof being in its lowermost position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same device. Fig. 3 is a plan of the same.
Corresponding parts in all the figures are denoted by the same reference characters.
My invention comprises a base member adapted to sit on thel iioor and having a standard extending upwardly therefrom and adapted to receive a stem terminating at its upper end in a disk-like head or table upon which the flower-pot is placed, said standard and stem being provided with locking means -whereby the stem and its table may be held in various positions. The base-piece comprises a base-fiange l and a standard 2, this standard being provided with a center bore or hole adapted. to receive the stem. I have herein shown this Vbore as being of a general circular cross-section provided with an extension 3 at one vside adapted to receive a toothed flange or rib. The stem 4, which ts within said bore, is of a similar cross-section-that is, circular-with a rib at one side thereof. This rib. is provided with teeth 5,
adapted to be engaged by a pawl to hold the of the standard 2 and at its upper end is pivoted a yoke-like lever 7,. which extends about the standard and is provided with a tooth 8, which entersthe slot 6 and is adapted to engage the teeth upon the stem. This yoke is preferably provided with a short handle 9, by which it may be conveniently raised. In locking position the pawl-lever 7 extends downward upon an incline, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2. When this lever is swung upward to a-horizontal position, the tooth Sis cleared from the teeth 5 on the stem and the stem 4, together with its top or table 10, may be moved up or down, as desired.
It isevident that a device of this character v Vmay be made so as to have a wide range of adjustment and is therefore very convenient for the purpose Yfor which it is intended. It is very simple in construction, may be quickly adjusted to any position desired, and is positively held when adjusted.
In order to raise the top l0, it is only necessary to pull it upward, such action serving Y to raise the locking-pawl 8 and the weight of the pawl carrying it backward in position to engage another tooth upon the stem.
I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the details of construction and arrangement as herein described and illustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made in the features of construction and arrangement in the adaptation of the device to various conditions of use without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and improvements. I therefore-reserve the rightto all such varia- 'tion and modification as properly fall within the scope of my invention and the terms of the following claim. A
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent An adjustable support for flower-pots and like articles, comprising abase havinga standard extending upward therefrom and pro- In testimony whereof I have signed my vided with a bore having a lateral extension name in the presence of the subscribing wit- 1o on one side, a top having a stem adapted to nesses. fit said bore and provided with a toothed rib 5 upon one side adapted to fit within said lat- ADOLPH GRAEFE eral extension of the bore, and a pawl carried Witnesses: by the standard and adapted to engage the CYRUS EVERS, teeth on said standard.
