Be itknown that I, BENJAMIN ILLINGwoRrH, of Freeport, in the county of Stephenson, and in the Stateo Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churns; and do hereby declare that the follow- A `g drawings, and to the letters of reference -marked thereon. I* In the annexed drawings, melting port of this specification, A represents a churn-dasher, constructed substuntially in the form represented, being provided on its upper side with two annular grooves or recesses, E and F, from the bottoms of whichare made the holes d al and a a. B represents the churn-stai?, the lower end of which is made fast to the dusher A. This stalis made hollow from one end to the other. In the upper end of the hollow of the shaft is inserted a plug, D, over the lower end of which plug is first drawn an India-ruhber nipple, C. This nipple has a slotl in its lower end. The plug is made hollow, so that in churning,'as the flasherl and staff rise, air is drown in the churn through the plug and through the slot in the nipple, and then through the hollow shaft. When the dnsher and stuff descend, the slot in the nipple closes, to prevent the passage of air backwards, or up und ont of the staii'.
