HARRY J. MACKINTOSH AND ROBERT E. TWEED, OF AUDUBON, NEW JERSEY.
WOVEN FABRlC.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 738,218, dated September 8, 1903.
Application filed June 5, 1903. Serial No. 160,139. (No specimens.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, HARRY J. MACKIN- rosn and ROBERT R. TwEEn, citizens of the United States, and residents of Audubon, Camden county, New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVoven Fabrics, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in woven fabrics, and the object of our invention is to furnish an improved chenille-faced hard-back fabric suitable more particularly for carpets or rugs.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a diagrammatic view of one form of our improved fabric, and Fig. 2 a similar view of a modification of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in both figures.
a b c are three warpthreads forming two sheds, one above the other, each of which is adapted to receive a filling-thread. The filling-thread of the upper plane is lettered d, that of the lower plane c.
f is a fourth warp-thread adapted to engage the chenille threads g and certain or every one of the upper plane of filling-threads (Z. In Fig. 1 the warp-thread f engages every other one of the filling-threads c7, and in Fig. 2 every one of these threads.
Our fabric is a three-weft one having a chenille thread held by the upper shed and two planes of filler-threads, the first held by the middle shed and the second by the lower shed. .Upon the face of the fabric is shown the chenille threads, upon the back the warpthreads a b c and the filler-threads e are shown, and as these latter threads are all preferably formed of jute the back of the fabric is smooth and hard, while it is given the desired body by the two planes of filling.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A three -weft fabric having a face of chenille and an upper and a lower plane of filling, said planes of filling being held by upper and lower sheds formed by three warpthreads, and said chenille being held by a shed formed by a fourth warp-thread which engages the upper plane of filling-threads only.
2. A three-weft chenille-faced fabric having four warp-threads, three of which form a lower and a central shed, each of which hold a separate plane of filling, the fourth warpthread engaging every other shot of filling in the upper plane of filling and forming a shed for holding the chenille.
