SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 737,156, dated August 25, 1903.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Orro SOHIMANSKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sandusky,-in the county of Erie and State of'Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grate-Bars, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates particularly to hollow grate bars through which air-currents are adapted to pass to increase the combustion of the burning fuel; and it consists in the novel formation of the bar, and particularly in the peculiar construction of the capscovering the discharge-openings and their application to the bar, whereby a maximum airblast may be discharged within the arch and in all directions therein in such manner-as to produce intense combustion.
The invention further consists in certain details of construction, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and shown in the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a broken plan view of a gratebar embodying my invention. The reference-letter A represents a gratebar ofany approved form and hollow, as illustrated. The bar is provided with a suitable air-inlet B and has formed in its top, which is flat, a plurality of discharge openings or outlets O. What I claim as my invention is 1. In combination with a hollow grate-bar having an air-inlet, and a discharge-opening formed in its top, of a removable cap seated within said discharge-opening and carrying depending from its under face an inverted conical shank projecting Within the bar, there being a series of draft-passages arranged circumferentially about the cap leading from the interior of the grate.
2. In combination with a hollow grate-bar, having an air-inlet, and a discharge-opening formed in its top, of a flat imperforate cap removably seated Within said discharge-opening below the grate-top and carrying depending from its under face an inverted conical deflecting-shank projecting within the bar,
there being a series of draft-passages arranged cireumferentially about the cap leading from the interior of the grate-section.
3. A hollow grate having an air-inlet and a plurality of discharge-openings formed in its top, the Walls about said openings being provided with flat annular seats, a plurality of spaced lugs upon each seat, flat caps seated Within the discharge openings below the grate-top of less area than the area of the openings, and resting upon the lugs 0n the seats, and an inverted conical shank integral with each cap and depending from the under face of the latter Within the grate-bar.
